Copeland Design Engineering Manager in Sidney, Ohio

As a Design Engineering Manager - Centrifugal, based in Sidney, OH location, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, supporting engineering lab and managing the engineering team in developing world class centrifugal compressor product. In this position you will work closely with the project engineering, engineering lab, aerodynamic engineering, motor development team, AME, program management, procurement, and operations to coordinate design features that will enable low cost, high quality, and reliable functioning of this new global product. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, tech savvy, process-oriented person.

AS A DESIGN ENGINEERING MANAGER, YOU WILL:

  • Drive the development of Centrifugal Compressor Design by making data driven decisions to drive how future products will be designed

  • Enable the development and implementation of design, with ease of manufacturing, quality control, automation, cost and schedule in mind

  • Collaborate with AME, Project Engineering, Aero, Testing, other cross-functional groups to address industry trends and leverage design for manufacturing expertise to ensure all aspects of safety, quality, and performances are achieved

  • Work closely with the SQE and Procurement team to incorporate features for low-cost, high-quality products and processes

  • Work with cross-functional teams to address current manufacturing challenges

  • Work with third part manufacturers to create prototype components, new equipment, and processes

  • Ensure all production related technologies, equipment, and processes meet all safety requirements in accordance with applicable industry standards

  • Drive continuous improvement by utilizing lean principles that are aligned with manufacturing and automation strategies

  • Serve as the technical expert for assigned design and process responsibilities

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or related manufacturing technical degree or combination of education and experience.

  • Experience with engineering design, GD&T, BOM Creation, Tolerance Stack up study, Thermodynamics, Structural Analysis, DFMEA

  • At least (8) years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Good organizational, project management, presentation, and collaboration skills

  • Ability to recognize and solve simple and complex problems in design, testing, and manufacturing

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced engineering environment

  • Experience 3D CAD Software (NX Preferred), PLM (Team Center Preferred) and Oracle

  • Understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Automation

  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office programs

  • Ability to travel up to 10-15% of the time including some international travel

  • Legal Authorization to work in the United States - Sponsorship will not be provided for this role

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • Ten (10) years of related experience, or combination of education and experience

  • Experience with centrifugal compressors, HVACR and lean principles for design

  • Experience and Proficiency with assembly, quality tools and processes is a plus

  • Experience in Machine Design and manufacturing Automation

  • Understanding of PLC programming & FANUC robot controls

  • Proficient in performing manufacturing DFMEA / PFMEA

This role has the flexibility of a core hour schedule. You can choose to flex your start and stop times given you are working during the core hours of 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM.
