Who You Are

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety or related field combined with relevant work experience required
Minimum ten years of industrial, construction, or related experience managing health and safety function in a fast-paced, complex environment
Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Possess strong leadership skills, with exceptional proficiency in interpersonal communications including the ability to influence others
Highly motivated and self-directed with a strong customer focus
Willingness to champion changes and improvements with a bias for action
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects with multiple sub-tasks simultaneously
Currently have or willing to obtain a 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification
First Aid and CPR training completed
Possess a valid driver's license and have 24-hour access to reliable means of transportation
Must be able to travel in-state and out of state overnight occasionally
Frequent reaching, grasping, and handling of items, and visually and aurally perceiving attributes of objects and materials on a regular basis without restrictions
Ability to work outside in varying conditions, such as high heat, high humidity and extreme cold
Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
Occasional standing and walking for periods of four to eight hours

This Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health and Safety Manager to join our team! You will be responsible for creating and maintaining a safe and healthy working, business, and community environment for Bay West employee and other business stakeholders, while complying with federal, state and environmental and occupational health, and safety regulations.

Your Key Responsibilities

Lead Bay West Safety Committee - creates agenda, holds quarterly meetings, and posts/distributes the minutes, track action items for completion
Vets and approves subcontractor pre-qualification safety packets
Maintain OSHA 300 Recordkeeping, Federal EM 385-1-1 (2017) Incident Reporting, and First Report of Injury for workers’ compensation
Continuously update third party contractor vetting evaluation forms (ISNet World, PICs, Browz, Magellan, OMG)
Ensure DOT program is complaint by maintain complete DOT Qualified Driver files and conducting annual driving record checks
Investigate accidents and unsafe working conditions, studies possible causes, recommends remedial action, and reports them to Management
Formulate lessons-learned bulletin for all employees to review, identify where controls need to be implemented to reduce or eliminate hazards and advise if a new program or practice is required and track incident reports to closure
Reviews and approves Site Specific Health and Safety Plans (SSHP’s), Activity Hazards Analysis (AHAs), and Accident Prevention Plans (APPs), and Hazardous Evaluation Forms (HEFs)
Inspect and maintain adequate supply of equipment including respiratory inventory, SCBAs, air monitoring equipment, Drager tubes, Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry Recue, Heat and Cold Stress supplies, First Aid, and MPCA instruments
Manage EHS budget and procurement requirement, prioritize by compliance versus best practice, maintain budget estimates, and close coordination with CFO
Oversees AED Medical Prescription/Public Access Defibrillator Program for both Saint Paul and Minneapolis offices
Analyzes work environments and design programs to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, radiological, and biological agents or ergonomic factors that involve the impact of equipment design on a worker’s comfort or fatigue
Ensure compliance with federal and state environmental/occupational health and safety regulations by completing required reports, posting notifications, maintaining records, applying for permits, implementing controls, and developing and implementing practices and programs such as OSHA, EPA, and DOT
Determines medical exam and drug testing requirements based on employee job functions and contractual obligations
Conducts Health and Safety Orientation for new employees
Serve as back-up to Human Resources for medical exam compliance, drug and alcohol testing, and worker’s compensation reporting
Directly supervises a small safety team
Comply with all safety, employee, and HR policies, procedures, and practices
Complete essential paperwork i.e., timecards, utilization, and daily reports in a timely and proper manner
