About the Unit/Department/Team
This Hospital Nursing Department supports the mission, vision and values of Lakewood Health System. We are a 25 bed Critical Access hospital serving Medical, Surgical, and Swing Bed Patients and Families. Our team consists of Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Health Unit Coordinators and Nursing Assistants. The Hospital team provides a plan of care based on Provider instruction and Nursing Care Planning to meet patient goals providing optimal care for their health and safety to promote quality of life.
Mission for Position
The Summer Clinical Nurse Intern Registered Nurse (RN) continues to develop their skills in providing personalized, compassionate care under the guidance of a nurse preceptor prior to graduating from an accredited nursing program and obtaining nursing licensure.
Duties & Responsibilities OR Position Summary
Provide safe patient care in accordance with Lakewood's policies and procedures
Orient patients and families to unit and hospital.
Monitor and address patient needs, referring to your RN preceptor when needed
Perform patient care duties with attention to proper infection control, detail, accuracy, patient safety and patient comfort.
Adapt care to each patient's age-appropriate developmental capability.
Maintain accurate written and verbal report, ensuring the patient care team is informed.
Contribute to the patient's individualized treatment plan by expressing nursing care suggestions based on your observations.
Administer medication, complete delegated treatments and maintain documentation within your restrictions, including but not limited to:
Taking vital signs
Providing treatments
Reporting occurences
Providing therapeutic environment
Completing daily progress notes
Documentation and communication for medical providers and family regarding patient's plan of care
Documenting observations of patients' status and interventions completed.
Identify learning goals and strategy, working with your preceptor to meet these goals through consistent attendance and participation in professional development opportunities.
Evaluate patient care, assuming immediate responsibility to intervene to ensure patient safety.
Position Type
Full-time, 32-40 hours per week for at least 8 weeks, to be scheduled between June 1st and September 1st. Shifts will include days, nights and/or weekends per unit scheduling policy.
Qualifications



Qualifications
Must be currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor's degree nursing program
Must have completed junior year of nursing program prior to starting internship
Must be enrolled in a summer internship course at a college or university for the duration of the internship.
Prior experience as a nursing assistant or in a health care environment preferred
Ideal Candidate

Communicates clearly with a variety of audiences to include preceptor, providers, family and patient
Is committed to participate for the entire duration of the program, except in instances of emergency or illness
