Job Description

Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opportunity for a Research Engineer in Middletown, Ohio.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Conduct metallurgical analyses using Research Laboratory equipment.
Operate metallographic equipment and scanning microscopes, as well as other material evaluation instruments.
Operate and maintain several analytical tools.
Perform material analysis of carbon and specialty steel products specifically related to product development and customer and operations support.
Develop new procedures and techniques for analysis involving metallography, scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffractometry, and EBSD microscopy, as well as other material evaluation techniques.
Project support to engineering within the Research organization, particularly with product development for new and innovative products. May involve product development research.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering or related degree.
3 years of experience as a materials engineer, metallurgical engineer, or graduate research assistant in either metallurgical or materials engineering field.
2 years of experience with problem solving complex material issues using scanning electron microscopy equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy.
2 years of experience with automated feature analysis software.
2 years of experience with fractography and failure analysis.
2 years experience with EDAX and Oxford software.
2 years experience with image analysis software.
2 years experience with optical metallography.

Or

Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering or related degree.
5 years of experience as a materials engineer, metallurgical engineer, or graduate research assistant in either metallurgical or materials engineering field.
4 years of experience with problem solving complex material issues using scanning electron microscopy equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy.
4 years of experience with automated feature analysis software.
4 years of experience with fractography and failure analysis.
4 years experience with EDAX and Oxford software.
4 years experience with image analysis software.
4 years experience with optical metallography.
