About the Job



The University of Minnesota Duluth's Information Technology Systems and Services (ITSS) unit is seeking a full-time, first-level Network Administrator to support campus computer networks and voice systems, provide customer support related to network hardware/software issues and questions, and contribute to the overall improvement of networking services for the Duluth campus. This is an excellent opportunity for those with a passion for technology, a willingness to learn, and enthusiasm for taking on new opportunities and challenges.

Prospective applicants must be located either in Minnesota or near the Minnesota / Wisconsin border or otherwise open to relocation.

Job Duties

Support UMD Campus Computer Networks and Voice Systems (60%)
Provision, configure, install, and maintain wired and wireless network infrastructure. This includes but is not limited to:
Network switches (campus and remote sites)
Wireless access points (installation, mapping, performance)
UPS systems for network communication rooms
DNS and DHCP updates
Infrastructure documentation
Fiber optic and copper patching
Work independently, or with senior network staff to continually improve networking services for campus.
Produce documentation, billing, and other information related to the network.
Manage network projects as assigned.
Network inventory (procurement, warranty claims, and asset disposal).
Maintain automated network processes using existing tools and version control systems.
Occasional off-hours work as necessary.
Customer Service (30%)
Respond to network and telephone service tickets.
Provide front-line support and response for network edge switches and wireless access point service issues.
Consult with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of backgrounds and experiences regarding network-related hardware/software issues and questions.
Personal Development (10%)
Attend staff and team meetings.
Attend specialized training in the areas of networking, telecommunications, and fiber optics.
Pursue opportunities to further your knowledge through online resources, certifications, and other professional development opportunities.
Maintain a commitment to the University of Minnesota's goals, including those that encourage equity and diversity.

Qualifications



Required Qualifications
BA/BS degree OR a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least four years.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to take on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm.
Knowledge of scripting/programming language (Python, Go, etc)
Knowledge of Linux/Windows systems administration
Leadership or Project Management experience
Effective communicator
