The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST LEAD – IMMUNOLOGY.

WORK SCHEDULE
  • 40 hours per week
  • Day Shift
  • 10-hour shift days

    POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Assure Quality Control and oversee the work of others
  • Exercise your critical thinking skills to help design, develop, evaluate, and troubleshoot procedures and problems in the Immunology Laboratory.

    REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Accredited Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science OR equivalent education/experience
    AND
  • Medial Laboratory Science certification with the American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent, or certification with a specialty organization appropriate to the laboratory division
    AND
  • Three years of professional experience including at least one year as a Medical Laboratory Scientist 2 or equivalent.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • It will be necessary to work in other departmental locations in order to meet patient service requirements, including Harborview Medical Center and at other UW School of Medicine locations (e.g., South Lake Union) and Seattle-area healthcare institutions, and also including an anticipated central lab location (Renton, WA) when scheduled.
  • Will be considered essential staff and as such will be required to report to work when scheduled despite inclement weather.

    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and evaluate methodologies, reagents and procedures
  • Assign work of others
  • Assist with regulatory and compliance aspects of clinical testing
  • Help evaluate performance of fellows, residents, students, and staff
  • Lead in preparation for relocation of the Immunology Laboratory to central reference laboratory location
  • Serve as a point of contact for Departmental staff managing the move, planning the logistics, and workflow changes that need to occur as a result of a move
  • Provide daily leadership in the laboratory sections assigned and provide guidance as issues arise
  • Communicate with supervisor and/or faculty about the ongoing operation of the section
  • Oversee, review, and enforce the Immunology Lab’s QC policies and procedures
  • Troubleshoot tests with QC failures
  • Maintain the theoretical and technical expertise for all procedures within assigned section
  • Cost assessment for clinical and research testing done within the Immunology Lab
  • Able to perform all the duties of the MLS1 or MLS2 as needed
