Position Summary
The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) and the Department of Pathology and Anatomical Sciences at University at Buffalo (UB) invites candidates to apply for a position at the Associate Professor or Full Professor level to be known as Professor of Empire Innovation. Selected candidates will receive support through the SUNY Empire Innovation Program (EIP) which recognizes high caliber faculty with proven track records of externally funded research. We invite applications from prominent leaders in the broad area of cancer. Priority will be given to research areas related to cancer vascular biology, cancer nanomedicine, and cancer nanotechnology.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering is a joint venture between the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) and the Jacob’s School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (JSMBS). The Department of Pathology and Anatomical Sciences in the Jacob’s School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences studies the application of computational pathology to clinical oncology as well as basic science themes in cell and molecular biology applied to neoplasia. Previous University investments in faculty and facilities have enabled these Departments to play a key role in the expanding biomedical and biotechnology corridor in the Buffalo-Niagara region.

The successful candidate should have a record of scholarly accomplishments, a sustained externally funded research program, and teaching experience. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research program, teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels, mentor graduate students, and advise students at all levels. We are particularly interested in candidates who can operate effectively in a team environment with a diverse community of students and faculty who share our vision of helping all constituents reach their full potentials.

The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with scientists, engineers and clinicians in a multidisciplinary research environment spanning all Schools of the University as well as the Gates Vascular Institute, The Jacobs Institute, the New York State Center for Excellence in Bioinformatics & Life Sciences, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Great Lakes Cancer Care Collaborative. Additionally, the newly launched Innovation Hub provides opportunities and resources to commercialize technology and launch new companies.

Buffalo is a city with a rapidly growing economy, eclectic neighborhoods, world-class art galleries and museums, a vibrant theater and music community, the Lake Erie waterfront, a city-wide system of parks designed by renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, and major and minor league sports teams. The awe-inspiring Niagara Falls is just 20 minutes away. The department is located on the UB North Campus in suburban Amherst, an area that combines outstanding public schools and services with a surprisingly low cost-of-living.
