Patent Attorney

The Position

 
Join our Global Animal Health Patent team in a worldwide leading Animal Health company to ensure animal welfare by protecting innovative and high quality veterinary medications and services.

This position can be filled primarily in Ingelheim.
This position is part time eligible with 80 %.
 

Tasks & responsibilities

  • As Patent Attorney you will ensure worldwide patent exclusivity for Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health products and development projects in the field of biopharmaceuticals and vaccines, safeguard BI´s know-how and secure BI's freedom to operate for research, development, production and commercialization.
  • You will manage patent portfolios effectively, including drafting and prosecuting high quality patent applications, and defending Boehringer Ingelheim's patent rights in patent office and court proceedings, including opposition and appeal proceedings.
  • In addition, you will support enforcement and defense of our IP in litigation and pre-litigation matters.
  • You will secure Boehringer Ingelheim’s interest in contracts regarding patent issues by providing and negotiating IP concepts and drafting IP clauses in licensing and collaboration projects.
  • Furthermore, you will pro-actively identify patenting opportunities in research and development projects, and draft and file patent applications.
 

Requirements

  • Doctoral or Master’s degree in life sciences, with a focus in biotechnology, biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology, or related discipline with several years of working experience in practicing vaccine, antibody or other type of biopharmaceutical patents (e.g. in industry or private practice / law firm) with proven track record in handling complex projects and conflict management
  • Admission as patent attorney in at least one major patent office (e.g. EPO, National Patent Office)
  • Knowledge in international and local Project Management, R&D Management, Corp. Patents, Patents Biologics, and Legal Functions at Corporate and OPU level (US, AT, CA, JP)
  • Ability to handle complex projects, to work in a matrix organization across-sites and in interdisciplinary/cross-functional teams
  • Cooperative, team-oriented, independent way of working and efficient self-management skills with a professional authority
  • Understanding the interface of patent law and commercial business aspects
  • Very good knowledge of spoken and written English
