The Department of Thoracic Surgery is seeking to hire a full time Staff Research Associate III. Under the general supervision and mentorship of the Principal Investigator, the Staff Research Associate III will work on the design and execution of translational research projects to investigate a novel, high-impact solutions for the clinical issues for patients with thoracic cancers. Projects for the candidate include:
1) determining actionable immunoproteogenomic determinants of the response and resistance to immunotherapy in thoracic cancers
2) investigating a novel mass spectroscopy-based platform to improve the intraoperative diagnosis and surgical margin assessment in lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies, and
3) the design of innovative biomedical and surgical devices to accelerate project 1 and 2 and to improve surgical care.
In this role you will be expected to perform molecular techniques including, but not limited to, cell and tissue culture, DNA/RNA isolation, procuring and handling human tissue samples, microscopy, and other typical laboratory duties. You will design, optimize and perform protocols for these molecular techniques at a fully operational level. The candidate will also help Dr. Burt with the design, prototyping and 3D printing of surgical devices. The SRA III will be expected to consult with the PI, other collaborators and scientific literature to find and bring new ideas to the lab. You will be responsible for the majority of lab management duties including, but not limited to, laboratory equipment, specimen procurement and inventory, supply management and coordination of general lab support activities. You will also assist in the preparation of manuscripts and presentations by contributing to the Methods, Data and Analysis sections and helping the PI to plan future studies and funding applications. This SRA III position will have some supervisory responsibilities as the day-to-day manager of the various part-time lab members.
Pay Range: $66,560.00 – $100,300.00 annually.
Required:
Bachelor’s of Science in a life/biomedical science discipline, or equivalent experience.
Knowledge of laboratory equipment and safety.
Comprehensive knowledge of cell biology and previous experience working with human cells, preferably primary patient samples.
Comprehensive Knowledge in molecular biology and laboratory experiments.
Knowledge of specimens and tissue collection, consent process.
Excellent skill in verbal and written communication. Proper utilization of English in the written word and conversation.
Skill in tact and diplomacy.
Skill in working with disparate faculty.
Knowledge of contract and grant application process.
Skill in organizing and coordinating meetings.
Advanced skill and knowledge of computer applications.
Ability to be self-motivated, minimal supervision, handle multi-tasks and prioritize workload.
Ability to handle sensitive & confidential information.
Ability to operate various office equipment, ability to setup and maintain filing system and office supplies.
Preferred:
Knowledge of UCLA Policies and procedures.
Translational research experience in cancer/tumor immunology and/or protemics.
