    OPEN FOR INTERNAL BIDS THRU 3/5/25 @ 4:00 PM.
    EXTERNAL APPLICANTS (WE WILL HIRE EXTERNALLY IF NO INTERNAL BIDS):  OPEN 2/26/25 until position is filled. 
     
    *Employee will be assigned to West High but however could be required to temporarily be relocated to another school building throughout the school year where needed. 
     
     ** Starting and ending time will be set by the building to meet bell schedules and building needs
      
    Entry Wage 2024-25, $19.30/hr: Current campus security employees with seniority please refer to the Wage Sections of the bargaining unit contract.
                
    Duties & Responsibilities:  (Essential Functions of Position, Major Responsibilities, Summary of Key Duties, Special Assignments, Relationships)
     
    • Supervise the arrival and departure of students.
    • Supervise the lunchroom, hallways, restrooms, and classrooms as needed.
    • Supervise outside areas: Parking lots and nearby businesses, removing students as needed. Will also report imminent safety concerns.
    • Escort special students as needed.
    • Remove non-students from the building.
    • De-escalate potential problems with students.
    • Appropriately restrain students who are in danger of hurting themselves or others.
    • Work with Durham Transportation on safety drills.
    • Attend all professional development offerings pertaining to the position and report pertinent information to staff.
    • Serve as a member of the school security team. Monitor and operate the school's security equipment.
    • Assist with updating the building crisis manual on an annual basis.
    • Maintain a positive working relationship with the staff to insure a safe school environment.
    • Be prompt to work and have excellent attendance.
    • Communicate with Law Enforcement, parents and staff on security issues.
    • Stay current on local gang issues.
    • Oversee any crisis situation with the building administrators and take appropriate action in the administrator's absence.
    • Provide written reports on school incidents, students' behavior matters, and safety/security issues.
    • Complete security assessments for the building.
    • Understand and practice confidentiality with regard to school/student related issues.
    • Other duties as assigned by the building administration.
    • Submit daily safety log.
    • Other duties as assigned by building administrators.
      

    Physical Requirements of Position:   
    • Must be in excellent physical condition.
    • Must be able to walk constantly throughout the day and climb steps.
    • Must have ability to physically restrain students.
    • Must be able to push/pull/lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
     

    Special Qualification Desired:  (Personal Qualities, Education, Skills Needed, Experience, Etc.)
    • Experience working with Sr High students.
    • Experience working in the security field.
    • Experience with or will be trained in: Boystown, PBIS,  Restorative Justice, Youth Mental Health First Aid
    • Prior training in CPI desired.
    • Have a basic understanding of computer technology.
    • Reliable transportation required.
    Successful candidate must possess strong inter-personal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students and their families to insure that each child reaches his/her full potential.
