Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Custodial Services for Residential Operations, the Assistant Manager is responsible for delivering quality and reliable custodial services in the Residential Facilities on the Morningside Campus. The Assistant Manager oversees the supervisors and staff responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of facilities, ensuring work is performed in the most efficient and effective manner.
Responsibilities
The Assistant Manager works closely with the supervisors in the management of the workload across the unit, to ensure a timely and quality response to requests for service and helps determine the most effective manner to allocate resources during periods of peak demand.
They provide guidance and instruction in all areas of cleaning and maintenance, such as floor care, window and surface cleaning, stain removal, and furniture care. The Assistant Manager conducts inspections to ensure standards are being maintained, and deficiencies corrected, and ensures the proper handling, storage, and application of custodial chemical products on various building surfaces.
Responsibilities also include managing parts and materials inventories for the shops to ensure adequate stocking levels, work closely with the Manager of Special Events to coordinate coverage for special events, participate in the hiring, training, evaluation, and termination of staff as required and interpret the collective bargaining agreement and resolves issues that may arise.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or related business experience totaling 6 years, with a minimum of five years experience in custodial operations or building maintenance required.
Must have experience in the management of custodial services including workflow, resources, inventory management, and personnel development required. Completion of building maintenance or custodial certificate program required. Knowledge and experience in the operation of custodial equipment required.
Knowledge of the proper handling, storage, and application of custodial products is required. Knowledge of proper handling and storage precautions for various cleaning chemicals required. Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
Experience in managing a unionized workforce is desired.
