Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, Plant Operations, receives daily work direction from Chief Watch Engineer, operates, maintains and repairs high pressure and low pressure boilers, chillers, pumps, auxiliary equipment, water filter systems, hot water generators, fire pump and emergency electric generators in accordance with predetermined policies and procedures.     

Job Description:

Key Experience: Watch Engineer, Firemans License or 2nd Class Firemans License, plant in a healthcare institution, rotating shifts (Open)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

1.    Accurately and neatly makes entries into operating log book, recording fuel consumption and steam production.
2.    Assists in the cleaning, maintenance, and repair of boilers, heaters, tanks, pumps, valves and piping per predetermined specifications.
3.    Maintains chemical feed system within defined operating parameters recording daily record of test results.
4.    Performs assigned preventive maintenance tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
5.    Cleans, paints and labels equipment in maintaining a neat and organized power plant.
6.    Observes meters, gauges and operating temperatures of equipment, recording a record as per established procedures.
7.    Incorporates Lahey Clinic Guiding Principles , Mission Statement and Goals  into daily activities.  
8.    Complies with all Lahey Clinic Policies. 
9.    Complies with behavioral expectations of the department and Lahey Clinic.
10.    Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients.
11.    Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment.
12.    Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adheres to Customer Service standards.
13.    Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.
14.    Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education.
15.    Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:  High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).  Vocational/Trade School courses desirable.

Licensure, Certification, Registration:  Massachusetts 1st Class Firemans License or 2nd Class Firemans License with appropriate experience.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Knowledge of mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment and controls.  Fully proficient in all aspects required for current Massachusetts licensure.  In the absence of any of these skills, demonstrates the ability to be thoroughly trained to meet organizational standards.

Experience:     2-3 years in 2nd class engineer power plant in a healthcare institution.
