Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills, and/or abilities.

Registered as a registered nurse in the state of Minnesota, or registration eligible.
Certification as a Diabetes Educator is preferred, but not required. Willingness to obtain within 2 years of hire.
Willingness to complete training on the initiation and interpretation of continuous glucose monitors as part of the initial job training
Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills, decision making abilities, computer application, and mathematical abilities.
Requires 3-5 years clinical experience in a healthcare setting.
Proficiency with WordPerfect and Microsoft Office Suite software preferred. Visual acuity is needed for inspection of data, figures, computer terminals, and preparing, and reading written materials.
Successful completion of the pre-employment health screening process required.
Must be able to attend work site per schedule.

Job Description:
The Registered Nurse (RN) Diabetes Educator will provide direct patient care mostly in an outpatient setting providing diabetes education. Travel to outreach locations may be required. The RN Diabetes Educator will provide compassion and be committed to helping patients improve their health by providing practical care and education, based on accepted standards. The RN diabetes educator will work closely with all members of the multidisciplinary health care team, including dietitians.

The RN Diabetes Educator reports directly to the Clinical Dietitian Supervisor/Diabetes Coordinator and the Nutrition Services Director. The RN Diabetes Educator will have contact with patients, nurses, physicians, department directors, hospital employees, patients' families, and the public. Effective interpersonal communication and educational skills are essential to this position. The RN Diabetes Educator must maintain confidentiality and be self-directed.
