Role and Scope of Position:
The Director of Business Solutions, Operations, is a leadership level function reporting to the Vice President, Enterprise Business Solutions and serves as an integral part of the IT leadership team.
The Director is responsible for all aspects of information technology applications management for their responsible business domains, improving business processes, supporting critical business strategies, and providing strong business relationship management. Manage the development, implementation, and maintenance of business applications systems and recommendations for application enhancements, and development of standards and policies and procedures. The Director will be responsible for business applications operational support across their business domains including projects/programs and charged with strategic planning, tactical action and operational decision making to fulfill the mission of the IT department and meet business objectives. The role is to maintain the organizations’ repository of software applications through best practices and supervise the appropriate staffing (onshore and offshore) and management of technical teams.

Essential Functions: 

  • Works closely with Senior Vice Presidents, Vice Presidents and Directors to gain understanding of assigned business process domains and the business unit objectives. 
  • This position will be involved in day-to-day activities within the department. Assesses the short, immediate and long-term business area technology needs and creates a technology roadmap for the delivery of technology solutions.
  • Contributes to the evaluation and selection process for business technology solutions that will supplement or upgrade the current business technology environment.
  • Proactively promotes the review and analysis of existing applications’ effectiveness and efficiency, then works with business partners to develop strategies for improving or leveraging these systems.
  • Establishes the deliverables and projected milestones for solution delivery in partnership with the Program Management Office and the business to ensure that projects are delivered on schedule and within budget.
  • Educates the business and IT leadership regarding the values and usage of new business technologies (Applications) in a growing and technology-driven organization and industry.
  • Establishes and maintains the strategy for the development, deployment and maintenance of the business area applications environment that will ensure the integrity, security and privacy of the information maintained by the enterprise.
  • Directs the work efforts of and provides leadership to all internal and external IT resources in order to support the planning, design, implementation, and operational needs of the business.
  • Manages effective flow of information while demonstrating superior verbal and written communication skills, ability to interact effectively with all levels of the business.
  • Actively leads presentations to senior management on business objectives, systems performance, communication plans, and new concepts.
  • Leads a proactive approach to production support by expanding the monitoring and alerting processes and tools to deliver on business results while continuing to drive the execution of IT operational/smallenhancements/continuous improvements projects in collaboration with suppliers, business partners, and IT management.
  • Manages the area budget following Finance and IT departments guidelines.
  • Assists and complies with annual Internal and External SOX Audit activities and requirements.
  • Ensures a strong, productive business relationship with business partners.
  • Builds a strong, diverse IT support and delivery team that has strong business acumen and a focus on delivering a positive customer experience to business partners.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Track record of leading and delivering cost effective results.
  • Proven ability to evaluate and manage risk.
  • Strong negotiating and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to set priorities and focus on appropriate roadblocks that hinder the organizations goals, knowledge and experience.
  • Proven experience in managing all aspects of vendor relationship including vendor performance and SLA adherence.
  • Proven experience coordinating and working cross-functionally across various IT departments including infrastructure, security, and the PMO.
  • Proficient knowledge in ITIL Framework, including Incident Management, Problem Management and Change Control as well as Change Management.
  • Strong knowledge of portfolio, program, and project management including application portfolio rationalization and decommissioning strategies and execution challenges.
  • Strong workload management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills. Ability to clearly communicate with at all levels of organization.
  • Utility industry experience a plus but is not required.  Additionally, experience with Operational Technologies (OT) a plus, but not required.
  • Experience with Agile and DevOps preferred.
  • Ability to plan and schedule projects and work under deadlines - must multi-task effectively.
  • Proven experience with troubleshooting principles, methodologies, and issue resolution techniques.
  • Knowledge of trends in technology relating to software applications.
  • Experience with service level management.
  • Demonstrable ability to think strategically and creatively while applying sound business judgment and quantitative analytics.
  • Ability to communicate complex issues and influence others internally and externally.

Operations Role Additional Technical Knowledge/Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience with supporting operations technologies including, but not limited to Work and Asset Management (WAM), Mobile Workforce Management and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Education:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related discipline.  Master’s Degree preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of twelve (12) years business and technical experience. Experience providing IT support services to customers, employees and/or business partners preferred.
  • For Operations Role: Same as above and minimum of five (5) years of direct experience supporting operational technologies (e.g., WAM, GIS, etc.)

Licenses & Certifications:

  • None

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
