Associate Forestry Technician

* Position is expected to be a hybrid opportunity working between home office and within commuting distance of FirstEnergy West Akron Campus (within 1 hour). Selected candidate will be expected to be in person in the office when job requirements and expectations indicate the need or when requested to be present by Management or Leadership.

This role is responsible to support the creation, integration, implementation and maintenance of Apple products and supporting vegetation service desk to facilitate the roll out and continued support of the Vegetation Management Software. This includes identification of best Apple product to suite the needs of the entire Vegetation Management group including amenities' to make the products "field ready and compatible". The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual the ability to function in a fast-paced team environment. Duties include asset management, cellular account management, asset and project budgeting and oversight, creation, development, and maintenance of service desk, oversight of service desk, leading/supporting and creating processes for contractors to facilitate/improve customer service, troubleshooting, support for day-to-day activities associate with hardware and mobile devices used in the field and office, creation and oversight of hands-on and virtual training of device use, testing, activation, setup, monitoring, reporting, shipping, receiving, ordering and reviewing and reporting on inventory of hardware and mobile devices. The role provides the opportunity for frequent interaction with Vegetation Management employees and contractors, IT partners, internal business units and other key stakeholders, which necessitates strong leadership communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities:

Build strong collaboration between IT and other Business Units
Learn and grow in knowledge of cellular companies, cellular hardware, and upcoming opportunities for hardware and software
Assist in Identifying hardware "refresh" requirements and needs so hardware remain 100% supportive of Vegetation Management group
Support Vegetation Management Support Desk processes leading to customer service excellence.
Work to understand Vegetation Management daily processes and activities to better understand how to support.
Support tracking and reporting on daily Hardware and Mobile Device inventory
Work to support the professional growth of all contracted support team
Learn and understand how to manage and negotiate cellular contracts to promote best in class pricing.
Assist in all aspects of cellular/hardware/software budgeting and fiscal responsibilities
Assist in identify appropriate Apple product and accessories for field use
Assist in identify appropriate cellular provider to best support Operations staff per work area
Orchestrate and direct receiving cellular devices and verify validity
Learn and support verifying best management practices in cellular contract management
Assist in creating and implement supporting service desk
Develop or review procedural and process documentation (Veg Bulletins, troubleshooting flowcharts, processes, etc.) to support the hardware
Assist in creating and support implementation of the ITNow System for Vegetation Management
Assist in managing the Microsoft InTune System for Vegetation Management
Oversee implementation and training of the new VMS software and other future software
Oversee hands-on and virtual training as needed for use of Hardware and Mobile Devices
Assist in managing IOS Apple Updates and identify any impacts to current and future user interfaces
Review and report out on hardware and Mobile Device Equipment Inventory
Present information on budget, project deadlines, and progress to Management and Leadership
Oversee and support cellular and mobile hardware cyber security requirements per FE standards
Utilizing understanding of Vegetation Management practices oversee the development and maintenance of User Guides and other Training Materials
Learn and maintain complete and clear understanding of FirstEnergy Corporate standards
Attend and be able to lead required meetings
Support user Onboarding and Offboarding as needed
Assist with storm support including devices.
Could require 25-50% travel depending on project status and need

Qualifications at the Associate Forestry Specialist level must include:


A 2-year degree in Information Technology or related discipline along with minimum 3 years of related work experience for hardware and mobile device support. In lieu of a degree, 5 years or more of direct, related experience will be considered.
Must have full proficiency with computer software applications including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, OneNote, Teams, etc.).
Knowledge of FirstEnergy IT policies and procedures.
Knowledge of FirstEnergy software systems such as Fortinet ITNow, SCCM, and/or Microsoft Power BI Reports, Multifactor Authentication, Microsoft Intune, a plus.
Knowledge of iOS Devices required
Must be able to communicate effectively, through verbal and written methods to all internal and external customers and have excellent active listening and communication skills.
Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, independently or in a team, to manage, organize, and prioritize work and ultimately meet strict deadlines.
Must have a personal vehicle to commute to various facilities and locations as required, possessing a valid driver's license.
Must be willing to work during storm and emergency events as needed.
