Description of Work Unit | Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant community of approximately 157,000 residents that offers the convenience of a small town with all the amenities of a large city. Fort Collins is situated on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains with views of 14,000 foot peaks, and offers access to numerous cultural, recreational, and outdoor opportunities. The Department of Soil and Crop Sciences is focused on education, research, and outreach to solve the world’s most pressing food production issues and crucial matters about Earth, its ecosystems, and their services. Our faculty and staff apply research-based solutions to benefit Colorado and the world. We offer academic programs to prepare students to address national and global crop production, sustainability, and environmental quality challenges such as waste management, water quality, and reclamation of drastically disturbed lands. There are numerous opportunities for students to be involved in cutting edge research related to global food production and ecosystem function and protection. The Irrigation Innovation Consortium (IIC), Colorado State University, advances development and adoption of water and energy efficient tools, technologies, and practices in agricultural irrigation. IIC supports research, training, and demonstration projects at CSU, other land grant universities and locations. Since its founding in 2018, IIC has supported over 45 research projects in the western U.S involving private companies and public entities as collaborative partners. The IIC received a multi-institution, interdisciplinary grant for research, extension, and engagement titled “Climate Smart Advances in Ag Performance (CSAAP)”. This project will support and equip producers with tools, strategies, awareness, and improved access to information about how they manage water for agricultural production. The project requires coordination among diverse partners including university researchers, staff, and students; industry partners; producers; state and federal agency staff; and others. The CSAAP project’s key activities are to: strengthen and support the function and expansion of Master Irrigator (MI) and Testing Ag Performance Solutions (TAPS) programs in the High Plains; gather and organize data from these programs to support study and analyses; support the development of interdisciplinary research proposals and science communications involving agronomy, social-behavioral, economics, benchmarking and modeling of greenhouse gas emissions; and, engage with a diverse ag sector community, including the beef and dairy industries, irrigation technology providers, lenders and investors, and state and federal agencies who connect and partner with these programs. |
Position Summary | The Project and Communications Manager will support the CSAAP program with the following:
