SUMMARY
Mortenson is looking to add a Tax Manager. This individual will be responsible for managing, coordinating, and providing leadership to ensure the accurate and timely filing of income tax returns & estimated tax payments for Mortenson and its entities. This role will also be responsible for calculation of the income tax provision for financial statements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide oversight of the preparation and review of federal, state, and local income tax returns
Coordinate with Financial Reporting team and external auditors on compilation and issuance of financial statements
Develop and maintain best practices for the preparation and review of tax provisions, tax estimates, and general ledger reconciliations related to the tax accounts
Manage the business needs with respect to tax services and federal and state tax compliance
Manage the team to ensure tax audits are executed timely and tax issues are resolved appropriately
Remain up to date on current tax practices and changes in tax law
Manage the team to meet deadlines and interim progress goals
Manage ongoing collaboration with system support team regarding relevant tax technology / tools (including Oracle Cloud and TRCS)
Optimize processes across all responsible areas, leveraging technology to maximize efficiencies and productivity; re-engineer complex processes to simplify and improve the overall experience for all relevant teams and internal customers involved
Stay abreast of advancements in Oracle Cloud, TRCS, and other relevant technology that could be leveraged to improve and / or transform tax processes; assess and drive the implementation of technological advancements, as relevant
Establish a culture of continuous improvement that drives improvements in delivery, results, and overall customer experience across all responsible areas
Build effective business relationships within Mortenson to support the needs of the business
Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
Lead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and effectively manage performance
All other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Accounting and / or Master of Business Taxation degree
Minimum eight years related experience in business tax compliance
Previous supervisory experience
Previous experience in multi-state tax compliance
Previous experience in construction and real estate industries preferred
Previous experience in partnership tax administration preferred
Previous experience with Oracle Cloud and TRCS preferred
Thorough knowledge of income tax processes / best practices, principles, and internal controls
Leadership skills; ability to set direction, implement change and create a culture of accountability within the team
Superior organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to perform in a fast paced, changing environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
Positive attitude and excellent customer service skills
Professional, business-driven mentality with the ability to communicate and interact with all levels of the organization, as well as external parties. Ability to handle confidential information in a discrete, professional manner
Ability to collaborate effectively and build successful business relationships across the company
