WORK SCHEDULE POSITION HIGHLIGHTS DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION The Digestive Health Center at UW Medical Center - Montlake offers a full range of consultations and procedures for the care of digestive disorders and problems of the gastrointestinal system. Conditions treated include abdominal pain, gastroesophageal reflux disease, swallowing disorders, celiac disease, nutrition disorders, inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, disorders of the pancreas and bile ducts, and functional gastrointestinal and motility disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome. The Digestive Health Center also offers screening services for prevention and early diagnosis of gastrointestinal cancers. This includes colorectal cancer screening procedures such as colonoscopy and surveillance of other precancerous conditions such as Barrett’s esophagus or intestinal metaplasia of the stomach. This center provides a full range of gastrointestinal endoscopy procedures using a flexible, camera-mounted tube to look into the gastrointestinal tract in order to diagnose and treat problems. Most commonly, these include upper endoscopies to examine the esophagus, stomach or upper small intestine and colonoscopies to examine the large intestine. The center also offers advanced procedures such as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) to diagnose and treat disorders of the pancreas and bile ducts and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) to image structures deep within the esophagus, stomach and pancreas.
