JOB DESCRIPTION
Tooling Supervisor is Responsible for the Tooling Department function, initiates maintenance preventative programs for all tools, prepares and maintains work schedules, purchases all tooling materials, parts, and equipment that are specific to the tooling functions. Develops and analyzes all proposals for changes to tools and equipment pertaining to molds. Meets and works with other departments within the plant to support first run, scrap, and overall part quality in areas where tooling changes can improve these metrics. Manages the Utility Mold Clean and Utility Janitor for the plant. Responsible for assisting in all aspects within the Maintenance Department.
Responsibilities:
Tool & Die Supervisor will Complete tooling responsibility for Greenfield Plant. Acts as liaison between plant and division tooling group to coordinate all tooling activities. Follows tooling from foundry to production line insuring that all target dates are met.
Recommends modifications and changes to existing tooling to solve manufacturing problems.
Responsible for tooling documentation: ie. Tooling meeting minutes, receivers or shippers, bills of lading, invoices, and tooling purchase orders.
Fitting and mounting of molds utilizing plant maintenance force and outside machine shops to provide control over all tooling projects.
After thorough study of customer's blue prints, recommends modifications or changes of parting lines, hinge locations, pins or fasteners to eliminate potential or actual manufacturing problems. Submits suggestions and recommendations to sales for customer approval.
Studies tool engineering literature and continually experiments to keep up to date with new tooling engineering progresses.
Performs other related duties as may be assigned by his immediate supervisor.
Directs activities of the tooling department and the employees assigned to the department.
The Tool & Die Supervisor maintains an up-to-date listing by part number on all active programs in this plant. This includes the carrier mounting for the lines. They will have in place a preventative maintenance program that each carrier/mold mount will be checked out each time it comes off the production line and be ready when needed again. The molds will be cleaned and waxed while offline.
They will handle and maintain records on all molds being shipped into and out of this plant. This includes new molds, change level revisions, and storage-bound molds, as well as inter-plant transfers. This includes scheduling pickups and drop-offs at vendor locations and working with the vendors to expedite new programs along. This includes working with the Plymouth Tooling Group on all Greenfield programs, from the early model stage through to the production phase.
They will maintain an active listing by part number and location on all required active service molds. Another part of this includes helping determine mold disposition after a model year completes and molds are obsolete. All service material ordered by our customers will require locating the mold, having it leak tested, shipped to Greenfield, mounted and ready to produce foam pads.
The Tooling Supervisor must be a self-motivated individual who can manage work lists and see projects through to their finish.
SAFETY:
Must abide by all safety rules and policies and attend required safety training; as well as job rotations with or without reasonable accommodations.
Must be willing to report unsafe conditions or unsafe acts and assist plant in achieving safety goals as well as achieving and maintaining AMS objectives. Must be willing to participate and/or assist in safety/ergo activities and/or committees, safety Kazan events, safety audits, safety problem solving, and safety observation feedback events.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: TO PLANT ENGINEERING MANAGER
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Minimum of three years of responsible machine tooling experience in industry.
EDUCATION PREFERRED: Associate degree preferred in mechanical engineering
