Education Requirements and Experience:
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D) with 2-4 years work experience in a Human Services or Social Work related field required.
Associate's Degree in a Human Services related field preferred.
Experience in using legal terminology is preferred.
Experience in Microsoft Office Applications is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift 30 pounds or more and use proper body mechanics.
Be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Ability to work within an internal, non-smoking environment.
Preferred Skills:
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
Knowledge of the Indian Child Welfare Act and the Minnesota Indian Family Preservation Act.
Familiar with legal terminology, documents, concepts, practices, and procedures.
Ability to pass pre-employment drug test, criminal, and social services background checks.
Pre-employment drug testing is mandatory for all Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe positions. Native American preference.
 
Job Description:
Division: Child Welfare
Reports to: Intake/Assessment Coordinator
Worksite: Child Welfare Department
Work Hours: M- F, 8:00am- 4:30pm
LLBO Status: Non-exempt
Safety Sensitive: Yes
License/Certification Requirements: Valid MN Driver's License, current insurance or be insurable.

Summary: Determines tribal membership eligibility for the Leech Lake Child Welfare Department. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Intake/Assessment Coordinator.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Responsible for determining tribal membership eligibility status and process documents as needed.
Attend County EPC hearings on behalf of Leech Lake Child Welfare as necessary.
Assist clients with MA applications and processes for determining eligibility.
Conduct Kinship searches to identify eligible family members if applicable for case management.
Specialist will submit Affidavit of Service with the court clerk once eligibility is established.
Maintain confidential membership files for easy reference.
Use computer systems to locate and/or organize legal records.
Maintain confidential department files.
Maintain a respectful working relationship with colleagues, Leech Lake Reservation program employees, county Human Services staff, and other community stakeholders.
Work effectively with minimal supervision.
Meet deadlines and prioritize workload.
Coordinate office activities related to this position and assist other clerical staff as needed.
Attend program activities outside normal working hours as necessary.
Maintain a high degree of confidentiality and professional ethics at all times. Support and maintain sensitivity to Native American culture, lifestyles, and values.
Travel in and out of state as needed.
Adhere to all applicable data privacy laws.
All other duties as assigned.
