Job Description

DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE, Economics, to set financial strategy for the department and serve as its senior operations administrator.  Will lead operations for and oversee strategy and administration of all administrative and financial functions, including Institute-allocated finances, gifts, sponsored research, human resources, faculty affairs, undergraduate and graduate affairs, events, communications, building operations, and space planning; work closely with department head and provide counsel and comprehensive support to faculty and staff; ensure work is carried out properly by all staff and is at the level required for the department to achieve its goals and responsibilities; and serve as primary source of information, lead communicator, and liaison with the department head and other relevant offices and individuals about operational and functional needs, challenges, changes, and success.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor's degree; seven years’ experience in all aspects of university administration; experience in a management role; excellent analytical, financial, writing, supervisory, interpersonal, and communication, and organizational skills; good judgment, tact, and discretion with sensitive and confidential matters; ability to manage changing and conflicting priorities; and advanced-level knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, and accounting principles.  PREFERRED:  MIT experience, including proficiency with its financial, human resources, and operational systems (e.g., SAP, COEUS, COGNOS, NIMBUS, and B2P).   Job #23839-11
