Job Description

 

WorkshopMT, a nonprofit community workshop, is hiring people passionate about woodworking to teach beginner woodworking with hand tools to elementary age students with our mobile classroom on a very part-time schedule. Summer classes are grouped into weeklong sessions that are 4 hours per day from June until August. Teachers are asked to commit to one full session, with the possibility of teaching more if interested. No teaching experience is necessary; however, it is encouraged. WorkshopMT will instruct you on how to teach with the Mobile Classroom and provide CPR and First Aid training if you do not already have them.

Job Responsibilities:
• Travels to multiple locations and teaches basic woodworking skills to students.
• Works with children to overcome struggles and obstacles that may arise.
• Follows provided lesson plan outlines to teach specific tool use.
• Follow safety procedures and teach safe use of tools to students.
• Participates in a training with a member of the Board of Directors.
• Works with the Board of Directors to refine and enhance the Mobile Classroom.
• Performs other duties as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to follow guidelines and provide the recommended instructions.
• Basic understanding of woodworking skills, and a desire to improve their skills and others.
• Willingness to give and receive adequate feedback to improve the mobile classroom and classroom instruction.
• Ability to maintain a professional relationship with host facilities, students, and parents.
• Skill, dedication and aptitude for working with students.
• Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with people with a variety of backgrounds and lived experiences.
• Ability to maintain student confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Driver’s License
• High School Diploma
• Basic Woodworking Skills

Preferred Qualifications:
• State of Montana Educator license with current endorsement(s).
• Recent successful classroom experience.
• First Aid / CPR Certified

Physical Demands:
• Ability to stand on feet for extended periods of time, stoop, bend, lift, and carry items up to 40 pounds

Program Sessions:
June 16-20, 9am-12pm
June 23-27, 9am-12pm
July 21-25, 9am-12pm
August 11-15, 9am-12pm
