Description of Job

The Office of Communications provides clear, accurate and timely information to employees, the general public, members of the media, and industry stakeholders to support the department in achieving its organizational goals.

This position will develop and manage a comprehensive public information program to address public relations, information and education priorities of the Department of Revenue, Division of Motor Vehicle (DMV), to various audiences, including the general public, the legislature, news media, other state agencies and local government entities.

Duties (include, but are not limited to):

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive and all-encompassing communications program for the Division of Motor Vehicle.
  • Assist in the production of and troubleshooting for public-facing and internal communications efforts, ensuring they are timely, well researched, accurate, neat and professional. 
  • Schedule, compile, design and write public information/education materials, and prepare the information to be available.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience OnlySix (6) years of relevant experience in Communications and/or Outreach for a State Entity; or

Education and ExperienceA combination of related education and/or relevant experience in  Communications and/or Outreach for a State Entity equal to six (6) years.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

  • Experience working in the State of Colorado or local government.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple priorities, and able to react and adjust quickly to changing conditions. 
  • Excellent communication skills; able to communicate effectively and articulately in writing and orally. 
  • Experience in developing and implementing outreach strategies.
  • Fluency in Gmail and Google Applications, and the ability to quickly learn other software systems.
  • Experience working on earned media events and a proven track record for developing and maintaining trusted relationships with stakeholders. 
  • Experience working in transportation, public safety, community engagement, consumer protection, and/or emergency management highly valued.
  • Demonstrated success managing change and ability to adapt to changing environments. 
  • Demonstrated success partnering with public and private organizations, special interest groups, elected and appointed officials, in situations that may be politically sensitive.
  • Excellent reasoning, investigative, analytical, and problem-solving ability. 
  • Effective communication style and interpersonal skills that incorporate consensus building and participative decision making. 
  • A positive attitude, adaptability, and a good sense of humor.

Conditions of Employment with the CDOR:

Employees are in a position of public trust in the performance of their job duties and must operate in a manner that maintains the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and public confidence. 


As a condition of employment with the CDOR, all personnel must file all necessary Colorado Individual Income Tax (CIIT) returns and pay tax obligations, therefore all employees must undergo a pre-employment evaluation of their tax records/accounts to ensure compliance with this policy. Final candidates must also complete a successful background investigation and reference check prior to appointment. Certain positions based on duties may require scheduled background investigations.
