The Position and Job Summary

• Serve as the spokesperson for the organization, responsible for crafting consistent, accurate responses to inquiries from external entities.
• Develops and implements media outreach plans and manages the distribution of information to consumers, families, service providers, stakeholders and the community at large, through multiple mediums including electronic mail, social media, print and the press, ensuring that information is translated into the agency's threshold languages.
• Ensures all media outreach efforts and messaging are strategic, cohesive, consistent, and effective in supporting NLACRC's mission, vision and values and meeting applicable mandates.
• Monitors messaging from the Department of Developmental Services, Association of Regional Center Agencies, community partners, and general news media for potential responses and/or further dissemination.
• Gathers information and develops public information materials, messages and professional correspondence for dissemination, which may include advisories, newsletter articles and other materials. Creates and disseminates messaging about regional center services, initiatives, and mandates.
• Continuously develops and manages content for the website and ensures that that the website is compliant with statutory, regulatory and contractual requirements.
• Proactively identifies opportunities to place informational materials and messaging into the media to increase awareness of the Center's services.
• Attends departmental staff meetings to obtain information.
• Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with members of the Department of Developmental Services, community-based organizations, community partners, stakeholders, Board of Trustees, Government & Community Relations Committee, and elected officials, to coordinate public announcements, messaging and to identify emerging media issues.
• Ensures that written communications are easy to understand and in line with plain language best practices.
• Works with internal and external stakeholders to organize, promote and host public events (town halls, public meetings, etc.) that support the Center and Board of Trustee's strategic goals and objectives.
• Works with internal and external stakeholders to create, develop and implement the Center's Performance Contract, Purchase of Services, National Core Indicator, Caseload Ratio, etc., materials, public meetings, presentations and reports on outcomes.
• Works with NLACRC leadership and others in responding to media queries, proactively disseminating information and acknowledging cultural awareness events.
• Plans and executes special events of a public relations nature.
• Other duties as assigned.

Compensation

This position is exempt. Regular Salary: $ 113,852.33 – 153,700.65

Education & Experience

• A bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Organizational Development, or related field and a minimum of 6 years of increasingly responsible professional experience (after graduation) in a related setting.
• A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for 3 years of experience.

Skills and Abilities

• Must possess solid writing, proofing, and third-party research skills, be able to adjust to the rapidly changing priorities, have excellent phone manners and professional demeanor, and feel at ease interacting with the Department of Developmental Services, community stakeholders, community-based organizations, elected officials, board, committees, and staff.
• Attention to detail is a must.
• Scheduling social media posts and tracking metrics. Preparing social media reports and associated graphics
• Writing for a variety of audiences, incorporating easy to read approaches, in print and electronic products, including, but not limited to, news releases, social media posts, magazine and newsletter articles, video scripts, and web-based copy.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and cooperatively as a part of an interdisciplinary team, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and proficiency with MS Word and MS Outlook.
• Bilingual Spanish preferred but not required.

Essential Requirements

• This position is primarily office-based and will require some public engagement and travel.
• This position will oversee the Public Information, Emergency, and Legislative efforts for our geographic area.
• Able to work some alternative hours, such as evenings or weekends, based on emergency needs of our Center.
• Frequent telephone, virtual, and out-of-office meetings required.
• Valid California Driver's License and reliable transportation, or acceptable substitute, required.
• Upon job offer acceptance, candidates will be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

NLACRC is one of the largest regional centers in California and has proudly served the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, and Antelope Valley since 1974.
