About the Job



The Retail Sales Associate is a fun position that initiates a unique experience for all guests touring Glensheen. Each guest is visiting for a chance to escape reality and experience something new and exciting; the ticket house and gift shop are crucial components of the operation. It takes a skilled, positive, and friendly person to ensure each visitor feels excited about their visit experience or souvenir purchase. Employees will gain experience in customer service, sales, communication, history, teamwork, events, and business operations.

Job Duties:
Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive attitude.
Respond to customer inquiries via phone, email, and in person using clear and
informative communication.
Maintain knowledge of opening and closing procedures in both shop and ticket house.
Process tickets, reservations, and merchandise transactions; including phone, internet,
and mail orders.
Compute sales prices, total purchases, receive and process payments.
Maintain knowledge of current sales, promotions, and policies regarding payments,
exchanges, and security practices.
Daily cash reconciling.
Answer questions regarding Glensheen; including the events, merchandise, tickets, and
tours.
Exchange and process refunds; including tours, merchandise returns, and exchanges.
Recommend, select, and help locate merchandise based on customer needs.
Maintain a clean and organized work area in the shop, storage, and ticket house.
Typing, filing, and data entry.
Assist in processing donations.
Ability to act as an alternate to fill other retail positions during a given shift.
Provide scheduled breaks to retail and ticket locations.
Act as a lead worker and provide guidance to other gift shop and ticket workers.
Able to fix customer complaints in-person and over the phone, empowered to offer
discounts and complimentary tickets if needed.
Assist in reordering merchandise and taking physical inventory counts.
Perform work at the highest standard while working both independently and as part of a
team.
Speak up to ensure the safety of others.
At all times, uphold Glensheen standards and policies.
Other duties as assigned.

Demonstrate courteous and respectful behavior to all guests, coworkers, volunteers and
members of the Glensheen Staff.
Maintain a high level of customer service by ensuring that guests are assisted with any
needs that may arise and respond appropriately.
Have a strong appreciation and respect for the Glensheen historic museum property
and collection.
Be willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Work some holidays and University breaks.
Attend scheduled Glensheen training sessions.
Demonstrate punctuality and maintain a professional appearance for assigned shifts.

Qualifications



High School Diploma/GED and one year retail sales/customer service experience.
Training/education may substitute for some of the experience.
Requires knowledge and/or demonstrated ability needed to perform cash handling, customer service, excellent written and verbal communication, ability to lift 40 lb. with or without accommodations, and use of computer and office equipment.
Specific knowledge/skills may be required.

About the Department



Glensheen is the most visited house museum in Minnesota. In addition to the 39-room mansion, the estate includes a carriage house, gardener's cottage, boathouse, and 12 acres on the shores of Lake Superior. Glensheen is considered one of the most complete house museum collections in the country. Tours are offered year-round. Glensheen's event space is available for weddings, corporate gatherings, etc. Signature events are also offered throughout the year.
