POSITION TITLE: Coding Assistant

DEPARTMENT: Business Services Department

REPORTS TO: Director of Business Office



PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

Provide assistance in coordinating and gathering information to assist the Coding Department.



RESPONSIBILITIES:

Creates new patient information in Green Way Intergy charts and enters demographic information for outlying clinics into the practice management system and creates visits.
Verifies and audits patient information against the physicians schedule from outlying clinics including referring physicians to coordinate information.
Follows-up with outside facilities to obtain patient information, or dictation. Acts as a liaison for the patient between the clinic, referring physician, in addition to consulting payer websites.
Transcribes information from the physician surgery lines onto a Word document and creates visits. Adding insurance information, demos, and linking guarantors to appropriate patients as needed.
Crosschecks e-mail pages from schedulers to verify charges are captured in a timely manner.
Liaison between providers, schedulers, and shared facilities to ensure accurate charge capture.
Processes and works the unbilled and no-show report to capture any charges that have not been entered by utilizing available online tools.
Attends various meetings and enhances professional development and growth on a regular basis; make recommendation for revision and/or new departmental procedures under the direction of the manager.
Maintains up-to-date and knowledgeable of insurance information for all contracted companies.
Verifies insurance information and demographics on-line when available.
Assists Coders in obtaining current information to ensure timely and correct claims filing.
Completes any/all assigned business office tasks in an accurate and timely manner.
Performs back-up duties within the Business Office.
Assists with entry of charges when necessary.
Other duties as assigned.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS and ABILITIES TO EFFECTIVELY PERFORM RESPONSIBILITIES:

Represent Metro Urology in a professional manner related to appearance, communication and the maintenance of patient confidentiality.
Knowledge of policies, procedures and reimbursement practices.
Knowledge of clinic operations.
Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness. Ability to prepare records in accordance with detailed instruction
Ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with patients, co-workers, management, and providers.
Ability to analyze work methods to effectively organize work, make improvements and correct problems.
Ability to effectively incorporate the use of technology into day-to-day tasks (Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite, Green Way Intergy, NextGen and UroChart).
EDUCATION/TRAINING/LICENSURE:

One to two years coding experience or an approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong insurance knowledge and experience required.
Knowledge of Green Way Intergy, NextGen Medical Practice Management System preferred, but not required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite helpful, but not required.
