Job Summary General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.
Under general supervision and with on-going review, this position supports the engineering staff in the analysis, investigation and resolution of routine engineering problems of limited scope. Assignments are for small projects or phase(s) of larger projects(s) and are normally outlined in terms of specific engineering activities. Contributes to the completion of assigned engineering tasks which involve the exercise of independent judgment and discretion about matters of significance. Documents findings and implemented solutions, and communicates results to project engineering staff. Contacts are primarily internal within the team. May provide direction to design staff or technicians.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for leading teams to install/upgrade Ground Control Stations (GCS) for GA-ASI Unmanned Aerial Systems and any relevant troubleshooting.
- Work with Senior and Lead Engineers to develop new designs and modify existing systems as required to meet project goals.
- Applicant needs to be self-motivated and a self-starter.
- Under general supervision and with regular review, this position supports the GCS Project Engineering staff in the analysis, investigation and resolution of engineering problems of moderate scope and complexity.
- Assignments are normally accompanied by general instructions and suggestions, outlining possible approaches, sources or information, and potential problems to be encountered.
- Work is reviewed regularly for soundness of technical judgment, overall adequacy and accuracy.
- Tasks involve the exercise of independent judgment and discretion about matters of significance.
- Documents findings and implemented solutions and communicates results to engineering staff.
- Contacts are primarily internal with infrequent inter-organization or customer contact on routine matters.
- May provide direction to design or technician staff.
- Applies technical knowledge to analyze, investigate and resolve assigned engineering problems.
- Performs functional testing and troubleshooting of equipment and systems in Ground Control Station designs by utilizing standard engineering and scientific principles.
- Obtains and analyzes test data and requirements. And develops/modifies new/existing test procedures used in production and field environments.
- Develops appropriate documentation of findings and implemented solutions. Will be required to make brief technical presentations.
- Must be flexible to travel on short notice, possibly for extended periods of time, to Flight Test Facilities and Customer Sites in CONUS and OCONUS on occasion.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
- Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices

Job Qualifications:
- Typically requires a bachelors or masters degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and two or more years of engineering experience with a bachelors degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
- Must have a general understanding of engineering concepts, principles, and theory with technical experience demonstrating the application of those concepts while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
- Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment and organize work assignments to meet established timetables.
- Good communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to work extended hours as required.
- An EIT (Engineer in Training) certificate is desirable.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required
