Purpose
The City of Savannah is committed to developing our future automotive mechanic workforce. We support a progressive trainee program that will prepare you to become a certified automotive mechanic while working in our Fleet Services facility.

If you are an experienced, motivated technician with a passion for repairing and maintaining vehicles, and you are up for the challenge, we want you to join our team! The City of Savannah and its Fleet Services Department are currently seeking Automotive Mechanics with unquestionable integrity who can demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making skills under all conditions. We seek leaders who possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to evaluate situations while remaining calm, and the skills to think critically and make sound decisions.
We offer on-the-job training and paid ASE certifications and a new tool allowance! As an Automotive Mechanic, you will work a five-day work week, no weekends. Essential Job Functions

As an Automotive Mechanic, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of City vehicles and equipment.
Opens, closes, and updates work orders.
Ensures that repairs are performed to specifications.
Performs service calls in the field.
Changes and repairs tires.
Diagnoses and repairs electrical systems.
Performs air conditioning repairs.
Repairs hydraulic systems.
Repairs engines.
Repairs transmissions.
Assist master welder by providing minor to intermediate welding, fabrication, and cutting jobs.
Works in a team to ensure vehicles are operating at industry standards.
Maintains record of repairs to vehicles by posting data into the fleet management software.
Adheres to safety guidelines.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma (or equivalent) with a minimum of six months of vocational training in automotive/vehicle mechanics and engine repair, with one year of vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving history.

Work Location: 6900 Sallie Mood Drive
Work Hours: 7:00 am - 4:00 pm
*Required to work a rotating late shift occasionally: 9:00 am - 6 pm

Additional Requirements

Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post-offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required before employment.
Additional Information
Knowledge of hazard and safety precautions common to vehicle maintenance and repair activities.
Knowledge of the repair and maintenance of City vehicles and equipment.
Skill in the utilization of analytical skills and the ability to apply results.
Skill in the diagnosis and repair of equipment failures.
Skill in establishing priorities and organizing work.
Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
Skill in the interpretation of manuals and schematics.
