Hourly Special Events Program Job Openings
The City of Iowa City Recreation division is accepting applications for positions within the Special
Events Program. Hourly Special Events Program staff assignments may include the following:
Special Events Attendant
16.00 per hour
Definition of Work: Helps create lasting memories and build community through some of Iowa
Citys most beloved summer special events series, including Party in the Park and Rec n Roll.
This position may also assist with other events throughout the summer, including Movies in the
Park and the Iowa City Farmers Market.
Job Duties: Special Events Attendants will enthusiastically engage event attendees in a variety of
activities such as arts, crafts, nature, exploration, sports and games for youth and families.
Greets the public and works to promote a positive and welcoming environment for community
members. Assists with event attendee and performer questions and concerns. Monitors event
safety and enforces park rules. Sets up A-frames, banners, barricades, tables, chairs, audio, etc.
before the start of events as well as after the events. Facilitates vendor and entertainment loadin
and load-out. Removes trash periodically throughout the event. Conduct self in a manner that
promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Perform other
duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age. Ability to assist with and organize
event activities required. Must be enthusiastic and self-motivated. Previous experience
operating events or similar activities preferred. Must be firm and pleasant with vendors,
entertainment and public. Must be able to work in an outdoor setting. Must pass criminal
background check.
Hours: Tuesdays, 5:30pm 8:30pm at a variety of Iowa City park locations
Thursdays, 5:30pm 8:30pm at a variety of Iowa City park locations
Monday Sunday, Varied schedule including some weekdays and weekends
Special Events Facilitator
18.00 per hour

Recreation Program Supervisor in planning and researching weekly activities, prepping materials
and promoting events. While at events, enthusiastically engages public in a variety of activities
such as arts, crafts, nature, exploration, sports and games for youth and families. Greets the
public and works to promote a positive and welcoming environment for community members.
Assists with event attendee and performer questions and concerns. Monitors event safety and
enforce park rules. Sets up A-frames, banners, barricades, tables, chairs, audio, etc. before the
start of events as well as after the events. Facilitates vendor and entertainment load-in and

staff on occasions that Recreation Program Supervisor is not present. Perform other duties as
assigned.
