Performs comprehensive clinical assessments resulting in the identification of problems that require the specialized services of the SLP. Provides rehabilitative and restorative therapy, modalities, manual techniques and education to all patients in all departments in the hospital and affiliated satellite sites when ordered by a physician. Ensures that each service and technique conform to regulatory, hospital and department policy, as well as Commonwealth of Massachusetts law and ASHA standards of practice.

Job Description:

Speech Therapist - Days (Per Diem)

  • Performs clinical evaluation and re-evaluation according to physician order and department guideline.
  • Provides Speech/Language therapy modalities, manual techniques to all patients referred by physician based upon the needs of the patient as a result of the evaluation, re-evaluation and daily assessment.
  • Documents the results of the evaluation, re-evaluation and daily progress for all dates of service in acceptable format in the patient chart.
  • Supervises Speech/Language therapy students in the respective departmental section.
  • Performs services in a location in which competency with the patient population has been demonstrated at the discretion of the Department Director.
  • Presents a professional image and independently assume responsibility for professional growth and development and that of promoting the goals and mission of the department and Anna Jaques Hospital.
  • Communicates appropriately with all staff, hospital employees, patients and physicians.
  • In conjunction with the departmental secretary insures that the proper insurance and patient information is in the chart and that all payer guidelines are being followed.
  • Independently review orders and communicate effectively with the nursing, medical and support staff, completes all requested treatments and provide the necessary information in the proper documentation format.
  • Effectively manages the oversight of all CSLPA, aides and athletic trainers acting as aides in the environment in which the Speech/Language therapist is the evaluating therapist, and the treatment plan is being carried out.

Education:

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University.

Required Licenses:

  • Physical Therapist [Massachusetts, United States]
  • Massachusetts licensure, or for new graduates, enrollment in a fellowship for 36 weeks with a preceptor, who must be a MA state licensed Speech Language Pathologist.
  • Maintains BCLS.
