The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy is seeking an outstanding scientist for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of Fall 2024. This position is a full-time, tenure track, 12-month appointment based at the Baltimore, Maryland Campus.
We strive to advance basic, translational, and clinical research across the spectrum of drug discovery and development. The Pharmaceutical Sciences department is comprised of complementary research programs focused on chemical & biological discovery as well as experimental & translational therapeutics. Expertise includes chemistry, drug discovery and development, biochemistry, microbiology, biophysics, pharmaceutics, nanotechnology, translational and clinical science. The department is home to several centers of excellence: Computer Aided Drug Design, Mass Spectrometry, Bio- and Nano-Technology, Metallotherapeutics, Excellence in Regulatory Science and Innovation, and Research on Complex Generics. State-of-the-art facilities in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), High-Throughput Screening, and Applied Pharmaceutics support a full range of NMR studies, compound library screening, pharmaceutical formulation characterization and development, including early stage GMP manufacturing. Innovative research in computer-aided drug design, small molecule synthesis, complex biological systems, proteomics, metabolomics, and pharmacogenomics seeks to advance therapeutics discovery. Optimization of therapeutics is the goal of our concentrated efforts in drug metabolism, drug delivery and transport, pharmacokinetics, pharmacometrics, and drug formulation. Interdisciplinary research in regulatory science focuses on modernizing and improving the ways in which drugs and medical devices are reviewed and evaluated. The University of Maryland, Baltimore campus houses schools of Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing, Social Work, Law, and Dentistry. Additionally, the School of Pharmacy has a satellite campus at the Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville, Maryland. The University of Maryland enjoys an established record of successful collaboration for interprofessional practice and research collaborations with the other professional schools on campus.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
This position is responsible to the Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences with teaching responsibility to the Program Chairs.

ACADEMIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· The candidate will be expected to develop an innovative, independent externally funded research program.
· The instructional responsibilities will be to teach in the graduate and professional program consistent with the candidate’s expertise and school’s focus.
· Mentorship and training of students and fellows in candidate’s area of research.
· Perform additional duties as assigned.

Participate in service contributions to the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences programs through serving on appropriate committees.
Participation in appropriate faculty activities (e.g., faculty assembly, department meetings, and faculty committees), professional organizations, and other endeavors is expected.
