Security Officer – On-call
The Port of Vancouver USA is a multi-purpose port authority located in Vancouver, Wash. along the banks of the Columbia River. The port has handled a variety of bulk and break-bulk cargos since 1912.
The Port of Vancouver USA is a hub for more than 7 million tons of cargo moving from as far away as the Midwest to the Middle East, making its way on barges, rail, ships, or trucks –all converging on port docks. The bulk of cargo at the port includes wheat, minerals, autos, large project cargo, and liquids.
We are a versatile, hard-working port on a mission to create jobs and trade for the region. This is an exciting, highly visible time, requiring outreach and dialog with our community and stakeholders.
The port is also home to over 50 industrial tenants that vary from panel manufacturing to electronics recycling and small-batch beer malt distributing. We have recently added more than 50 acres of ready-to-build industrial property, and are set to grow.

We seek a professional, knowledgeable, Security Officer for an On-call position. The essential responsibilities for the Security Officer may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Actively supports the port’s mission, vision and demonstrates values consistently. • Works effectively as a team player with all Port employees. • Protect Port property by maintaining a safe and secure environment for employees, tenants and visitors. • Respond to all issues and/or incidents as they occur. Ensure response procedures and notifications are in compliance with Port policies and US Coast Guard regulations and appropriately documented. • Assist with the evacuation or movement of employees, tenants and visitors in emergency situations. • Maintains and develops a customer service oriented relationship with staff, tenants, contractors, labor, and members of the public. • Maintains relationships with local, state, and federal agencies responsible for response, safety, and security. • Work various day and night shifts including weekends and holidays. • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Must have a high school diploma/GED and be capable of communicating effectively and coherently over radio channels while initiating and responding to radio communications.
Experience: • One-year experience in military, police, or security field; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. • 2 or more years’ experience in customer service.
Requirements: Possession of current driver's license upon employment will be required for specified security positions. Must have a valid driver's license, good driving record, ability to obtain a TWIC card, and must pass a criminal background investigation.
Working Conditions: • Use sound judgment and decision-making skills when faced with confrontational people, confusing and rapidly changing incidents, serious personnel injury or disasters while working under limited supervision. • Apply basic investigatory techniques in responding to breaches of security. • Effectively utilize verbal and written communications to communicate with diverse groups. • Manage multiple assignments and responsibilities. • Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and open and close difficult warehouse doors and gates. • Collect and process information to make appropriate and timely decisions. • Be contacted on days off to report to work on short notice.
