STATUS: Regular Full-time Non-Exempt
Compensation: $25-29 an hour DOE

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Business Administration (Preferred)
Accounting certificate or AA in Accounting (Minimum)
Minimum of three or more years of experience in a business computer accounting environment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Proficient in Excel (filtering, summation, formula, functions, sorting, pivot tables) This is a must! Please do not apply if you do not currently use Excel in your work every day.
Bank reconciliation procedures
General ledger and financial reconciliation
Data mining and Data Auditing skills
Working knowledge of compiling large data sets and financial modeling
Basic understanding of "footing/cross footing" to ensure financial integrity
Strong attention to detail
Self-starter and Team player
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure
Customer service mindset
General accounting or bookkeeping knowledge
Strong analytical and research skills
General knowledge of business protocols, as well as awareness of The Salvation Army's Policies and Procedures
SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS:
Microsoft Word and Excel required - Proficient in Excel (8-10 rating)
Microsoft PowerPoint, helpful
Lotus Notes and outlook, helpful
Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training.
SCOPE OF POSITION:
Works under the Treasury Manager, the Junior Staff Accountant monitors all cash transactions within the central banking of the division and reconciles all bank accounts to the accounting system monthly. The Junior Staff Accountant works closely with the GL team to close the monthly financials on time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reconcile a diverse set of general ledger balance sheet accounts
Continuously follow-up on all reconciling items and provide updates to Finance Dept
Manage a set of complex bank account transactions with large volumes of small quantities and outgoing payments
Research all transactions that are outstanding so that they are satisfactorily cleared each month
Maintain in an organized manner any documentation for the purpose of supporting files, reports, and data
Prepare monthly bank reconciliation reports by the required monthly deadlines
Assist both internal and external auditors by providing requested documents
Assist with monthly Journal entries.
Perform all other related duties and/or projects assigned; may include but not limited to Reserve Recon, Payroll transfers, Portfolio Recon, Transmission Accts, etc.

Parental Leave: Benefit will be one week (5 business days) of paid leave at the employee's normal rate of pay for births, adoptions and foster placements.
Sick Leave: 12 days annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after 3 months' service time.
Paid Vacation: 2 weeks annually accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions. 4 weeks annually accruing from day one, for exempt positions. Accrued vacation eligible for use after 6 months' service time.
Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year.
