Position Overview

The operations mechanic will be directly responsible for conducting, as assigned, all aspects of mechanical maintenance, repairs, capital, and construction work throughout the plant in a safe and environmentally sound manner. In addition, the operations mechanics are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the wastewater treatment system.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

In addition to having experience with roller coaters, coil unwind/rewind equipment, hydraulics, and slitters, the ideal candidate must have experience in welding, experience as an industrial mechanic, and shop mathematics.  The successful candidate must also have a good understanding of blueprints and drawings, be knowledgeable of machine tooling and maintenance, and have experience with precision measuring equipment and close tolerances.  Candidates must also have a positive attitude and willingness to work overtime.

The individuals filling this job will hold either journeyman mechanic status or a relevant two- or four-year college diploma. 

 

  • Conduct mechanical maintenance activities on all equipment and buildings as directed.
  • Assist in the design and installation of capital equipment and assist in construction activities as required.
  • Use overhead cranes, forklift trucks, etc. in the completion of maintenance, construction, and capital upgrade activities as required. Maintain and upkeep all mobile equipment used in the plant.
  • Assist the Operations Electricians, both mechanically and electrically, in the preventive maintenance and construction activities as required.
  • Provide storeroom support as required.
  • Participate in continuous improvement teams, Behavior Based Safety Programs, audits, and other activities as required and conduct SPC activities as directed.
  • Maintain the mechanical workshop area in a clean, safe, and environmentally sound condition.
  • Maintain and operate the wastewater system.
  • Assist in operations support of the coating line on an as-needed basis.
  • Assist the operations personnel in all operating functions related to production equipment consistent with the other aspects of this job description.
  • Use of overhead cranes, hand trucks, and power fork trucks to rig, load, and unload, rolls, materials, and equipment.
  • Not to be considered all-inclusive.

 

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years experience is preferred. 
  • A Journeyman’s Card, an associate’s degree, completion of a certification program, or equivalent training is required.
  • Individuals exhibiting relevant and certifiable experience will also be eligible.

This position works rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends and some holidays.

Location Profile

Novelis’ Warren facility is located in northeast Ohio— approximately an hour drive from Cleveland and an hour and a half from Pittsburgh. The facility built in 1965 applies coating to rolled aluminum beverage can sheet. The sheet is used to make aluminum beverage can lids for global soft drink beer and sparkling water brands.
