POSITION SUMMARY
The Forklift Operator will be assigned to one of 5 areas: Receiving, Shipping, Treating Plant, Stacker, or Kiln. Regardless of the area assigned, the Forklift Operator is responsible for moving wood bundles throughout the production process while maintaining environmental and safety compliance at all times.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES- Ensure all environmental and safety procedures are followed and report all unsafe or non-compliant issues.
- If assigned to Receiving or Shipping, unload and load trucks safely and appropriately.
- If assigned to the Treating Plant, load and unload tram cars and stage material next to treating charge(s) safely and appropriately.
- If assigned to Stacker, load material onto the stacker infeed to be processed. Remove sticked material and stage for kiln loading. Remove finished goods and place them in the appropriate area of finished goods storage safely and appropriately.
- If assigned to the Kiln, load and unload kiln charges as directed by the Kiln Technician safely and appropriately.
- Move safely and appropriately throughout a gravel-covered yard without damaging material.
- Place spacers on the ground and between bundles as required.
- Attend all training sessions and safety meetings.
- Maintain Daily Forklift Operators Checklist.
- Other duties as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) is recommended.
- Ability to learn and obtain a forklift operating permit.
- Prefer someone who has experience with a large industrial-type forklift
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve problems.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Ability to demonstrate behaviors conforming to Hoover’s set of values and accepted standards.
