About the Job



Overview
The Arboretum Food and Beverage Manager is responsible for food & beverage sales working directly with the Arboretums Manager of Private & Corporate Events, preferred catering vendors, contracted catering support staff, and our in-house Cafe team.

This description does not include all possible responsibilities in this work and does not limit the assignment of related responsibilities to any position in this specialty.
Job Responsibilities

Food & Beverage Sales (60%)
-Work with the preferred catering vendors to understand their venue needs and timelines
-Facilitate a relationship between the Arboretum and preferred caterers
-Monitor customer satisfaction and address any issues or complaints
-Assist in organizing food service for Arboretum Signature Events
-Work directly with small group events that are ordering through the cafe.
-Plan and sell bar menu to on-site events
-Work with the Arboretum Eatery Team on Cafe Alcohol sales- develop promotional strategies to keep inventory rotating and minimize any waste.

Staffing (30%)
-Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating, and supervising Arboretum event staff (bartender, barback, event captain)
-Develops weekly schedule to cover operating hours; adjusts schedule daily to accommodate unexpected absences
-Ensures employee compliance with health and safety regulations.
-Managing event staff with high customer service and professionalism within the contracted team

Operations (10%)
-Track and report the Bar revenue and catering commission for each private event
-Develop annual reports that involve complex data analysis, extensive survey distribution and results evaluation, strategic planning, and sustainability targets assessment. Meet annual revenue goal from event bar sales.
-Manage alcohol inventory and ordering- monthly reconciliation of alcohol sales, orders, and inventory
-Enforce the safety and cleanliness standards for food service spaces used by off-site vendors
-Develop and implement Arboretum policy for service and client interaction
-Facilitate renewals annually for alcohol licenses and other applicable licenses.

Starting Salary Range (minimum to midpoint): $26.19/hr ($54,475/yr) - $34.70/hr ($72,176/yr)

Qualifications



Required Qualifications (must be mentioned on application/resume)
-Bachelor's degree with at least 4 years of related experience or a combination of education and work experience to equal 8 years.
-Previous experience in banquet or catering environments as well as prior food service operations or culinary experience.
-Ability to obtain both the Alcohol Awareness Certification (TiPS) and Food Handlers Certification (ServSafe) within the first 3 months of hire and maintain throughout the duration of employment.
-Familiarity with standard food and beverage equipment, inventory, cost control, and purchasing
-Excellent client relationship management skills
-Possess basic knowledge of business contracts
-Creative sales ability to upsell and highlight different bar features
-Strong financial acumen; analytical and detail-oriented
-Proficiency in basic computer applications (Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Word &
Excel)
-Advanced verbal and written communication skills, active listening, dynamic flexibility, critical thinking, and ability to multitask. Ability to work collaboratively
-Experience in meeting deadlines and multiple priorities of business demands as required
-Ability to work full time including variable hours including nights and weekends. Regular attendance is an essential qualification for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Prior experience in a leadership role within Food + Beverage
-Knowledge of food and beverage industry trends and best practices

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is a community outreach unit of the University of Minnesota's College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resource Sciences. The Arboretum is located west of Minneapolis/St Paul and its 1,200 acres traverse the municipalities of Chaska, Chanhassen and Victoria.
