NEED TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Addiction Counseling, or related field
AND
One year of counseling experience in an alcohol and drug counseling program.
AND
Must be licensed as Minnesota Licensed Alcohol Drug Counselor
AND
Valid Driver's License

NICE TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience providing alcohol and drug counseling and treatment to adult justice-involved individuals in a locked facility
Licensure as a Mental Health Professional
Experience working with diverse cultures
Previous experience working in or with a county social service agency
Bilingual language skills

Dakota County is currently accepting applications for a Social Worker - Jail Treatment Program (LADC) with experience and knowledge in the assessment, treatment, coordination, and counseling of individuals with a substance use disorder.

Duties & Responsibilities:
What You’ll Do
These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this classification. Regular attendance according to the position's management approved work schedule is required for all positions.

1. Effectively engage individuals and their families to assess and evaluate needs and strengths, including safety and risk. Conduct initial intake interview in order to assess the individual's need for treatment and/or referral services;
2. Determine with the client, and in collaboration with agencies, eligibility, need and level of service for identified clients.
3. Provide individual and group counseling to educate and assist individuals in recognizing and understanding the nature of the problem, to assess the need for treatment, and to evaluate progress;
4. Develop and implement individualized treatment and recovery plans; make referrals for County support services when indicated; confer with probation, parole, and other law enforcement agencies to determine inmate's legal status and/or develop appropriate discharge plans; consult with representatives from community treatment programs and recovery facilities to determine the appropriate placement of inmates and to ensure continuity of care after release from custody.
5. Develop and implement all or parts of a case plan, defining initial and ongoing measurable goals and objectives.
6. Facilitate, integrate and mobilize community resources on behalf of the client.
7. Evaluate, document and monitor progress toward goals and objectives in accordance with 245G.
8. Research, maintain and apply knowledge of relevant policies, procedures and statutes. Provide training and education to others.
9. Complete agency, state and federal required documentation as related to client activity according to mandated timelines.
10. Closure of case management activity with client based on resolution of established goals and/or successful integration to community resources.
11. Terminate activity with client when client requests closure or when involuntary closure is ordered.
12. Attend conferences and meetings to keep abreast of current alcohol and drug issues, treatment modalities, and services available.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: All duties listed are essential functions of this classification

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities and Work Environment:
Knowledge of Chemical health, substance use disorder, and evidenced based treatment options
Knowledge of human development, family dynamics and systems, including crisis management and cultural humility.
Knowledge of community resources and funding sources.
Knowledge of medical diagnoses, medications and basic medical terminology, as well as medical insurance processes and procedures.
Knowledge of statutes, rules and policies pertaining to alcohol and drug counseling, social work and the ability to research the same.
Comprehensive knowledge of computer software and information systems.
Interviewing, negotiation and listening skills.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a County Corrections building in a locked facility with the potential for hostile and/or aggressive behavior by individuals accused or convicted of crimes, including violent crimes. Some travel is required. Lifting requirement of up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis. Equipment used may include, but is not limited to, computer, printer, telephone, calculator, and copy and fax machines.
