The Commerce Fraud Bureau conducts criminal investigations into allegations of insurance fraud and financial crimes. The Commerce Supervisory Special Agent is a licensed, sworn law enforcement officer who has independent discretion in supervising and directing Special Agents, Senior Analysts and Analysts consistent with Bureau policies and procedures established by the Director of the Commerce Fraud Bureau. The Supervisory Special Agent is required to analyze facts and evidence to determine the proper course of action that should be followed while supervising complex, detailed and sensitive criminal investigations. The Supervisory Special Agent receives general supervision from the Bureau Director, they must remain flexible and utilize good judgment when utilizing and adapting guidelines such as Bureau policies, regulations, precedents and work direction for application to specific cases or problems. The Supervisory Special Agent is expected to plan and assign work independently after objectives, priorities and deadlines have been defined by the Bureau Director.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A valid Minnesota Peace Officers license or the ability to obtain the license upon appointment from the Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training Board In compliance with the Board requirements.   • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to accomplish a wide range of complex tasks and manage change with integrity and credibility.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills sufficient to analyze and share information in a clear, concise manner to a wide range of individuals including but not limited to internal and external stakeholders, attorneys, general public, and department staff.

AND

Four (4) years of active law enforcement experience as a licensed peace officer, with at least two (2) years conducting or supervising felony-level criminal Investigations with a primary focus on, or experience with, financial crimes with a law enforcement agency, e.g., detective, Investigator, special agent or investigations supervisor within the last 3 years.

OR

Associates Degree in Law, Law Enforcement, Public Administration, Leadership, or related field AND at least five (5) years of active law enforcement experience as a licensed peace officer, with at least five (4) years conducting or supervising felony-level criminal Investigations with a primary focus on, or experience with, financial crimes with a law enforcement agency, e.g., detective, Investigator, special agent or Investigations supervisor within the last 3 years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Law, Law Enforcement, Public Administration, Leadership, or related field.

  • Fluent in a foreign language.

  • Professional certification(s) such as CAMS, CFE.

  • Experience in law enforcement training; as a trainer or supervisor.

  • Tactical/SWAT/High Risk Warrant Service experience.

  • Variety of experiences working effectively with others from different backgrounds and cultures.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to pass a physical exam prior to hire.
