Job Summary
Dr. Hongchao Guo’s laboratory is looking for a lab specialist to work full-time in his lab in the Nora Eccles Harrison Cardiovascular Research and Training Institute (CVRTI) at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City. The research interests of the Guo lab (https://cvrti.utah.edu/the-guo-laboratory/) focus on deciphering the genetic mechanisms underlying cardiovascular diseases. The Guo lab has an interdisciplinary research environment, including molecular and cellular biology, cardiac physiology, genetics, human stem cell biology and bioinformatics.

We apply a multidisciplinary approach combining genome editing, DNA/RNA sequencing, imaging, biochemistry, induced pluripotent stem cells, and animal studies to gain broader insights into the genetic/molecular understanding of normal and pathological heart function.

Responsibilities
· The research assistant will take on responsibilities which include assisting for organizing lab supplies, preparing cell cultures, working with laboratory mice (breeding, genotyping, surgery, histological studies), and supporting research projects involving genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, and cardiology for other lab members.
· The research assistant will keep accurate records of lab work/data and participate regularly in weekly lab meetings.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry or other scientific discipline or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); two years full-time laboratory experience; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Working knowledge of advanced scientific techniques and procedures as well as the ability to make statistical calculations, analyze results, prepare reports and perform specialized tests also required.

Preferences
· The applicant holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry or other scientific discipline or equivalency required; Plus one year full-time laboratory experience.
· The successful applicant should have good communication skills, excellent organizational skills, prioritization skills, time management skills, and a strong work ethic.
· The successful applicant should have the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, to interact positively and collaborate with all levels of staff, and to work efficiently.
· The applicant has work authorization in the U.S.
