Under the direction of a RN, contributes to the Hospital’s mission by providing a safeguard for our at-risk patients by monitoring the stay and keeping the nurse informed.  This non-clinical staff position will have an impact on patient safety by minimizing falls and harm to self.

Job Description:

Education Preferred:  High School Diploma or equivalent

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS

LIFE SUPPORT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:  Basic Life Support

POPULATION SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:  Adolescent, adult and geriatric

JOB FUNCTIONS

As part of the Patient Care Services team, this position performs the following tasks under the direction of a RN:

  • Watches over patients that have been designated as a risk-to-self. 
  • Assists patients with walking. 
  • Effectively communicates with all members of the patient care team throughout the shift

and completes a thorough and comprehensive handoff with the other Patient Safety

Associates and RNs.

  • Assists in the patient’s meal and nourishment, by setting up trays, feeding the patient

and/or assisting the patient in eating.

  • Engages patients and family members in conversation and provides basic emotional

support.

  • Assists patients in the set up of personal and oral hygiene needs and dressing.
  • Keeps the room clean and tidy to improve the patient’s and family member’s experience.
