UPMC Chautauqua is currently hiring multiple Full Time and Casual Security Officers.  This position offers a generous $1,500 sign on bonus for a 2 year commitment.  

 

Purpose:

Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, staff and all UPMC owned and adjacent properties.  Establish a uniformed security presence by patrolling UPMC hospitals, buildings, grounds and associated areas to deter criminal activity, document activities, and contact UPMC Police Officers or other appropriate law enforcement when necessary.  Monitors security, fire, and environmental alarms.  Responds to and resolves problems, disputes and unusual circumstances as necessary.  Provides customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff to maintain a safe and secure environment.  Document incidents on appropriate reports as required.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Establish a uniformed security presence by patrolling UPMC hospitals, buildings, grounds and associated areas to deter criminal activity, document activities, and contact appropriate law enforcement when necessary.
  • Responds to and resolves problems, disputes and unusual circumstances as necessary. 
  • Provides customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff to maintain a safe and secure environment. 
  • Report and document incidents, suspicious activities and hazards.
  • Monitor security, fire, and environmental alarms, respond to alarms and assist when needed.
  • Staff fixed posts to monitor ingress and egress to secured areas.
  • Conduct patient escorts and stand-by details.
  • Assist with traffic control and vehicle assists.
  • Transport deceased to morgue/release bodies from morgue.
  • Operate UPMC vehicles in accordance with the rules and regulations of state and/or local laws Maintain required certifications and licensing.
  • Complete all mandatory training programs per departmental guidelines.
  • Inspect incoming and outgoing parcels as necessary to prevent theft.

Qualifications:

Requirements:

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Associates degree in Criminal Justice and/or one-year experience in safety, security, law enforcement, or related field preferred.
  • High level of integrity required for handling sensitive/confidential UPMC information.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills, especially the ability to effectively interact, communicate, and diffuse potential combative situations with persons from all walks of life.
  • Psychological fitness required to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations.
  • Physical fitness requirements to deal with typical physical demands that require full body motion and physical strength and stamina sufficient to respond to crisis interventions and medical emergencies. Must have good hand/eye coordination and able to pass an eye and hearing test with appropriate correction.
  • Be able to effectively communicate both orally and in written format.  
  • Good interpersonal skills; able to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations.
  • All applicants will be subject to a thorough background and criminal record check
  • Must be available for all shifts
  • Officers are required to wear a ballistic vest.

 

 

Licensure/Certification:

 

  • New York Security Guard License as defined in section 7A of the General Business Law
  • FBI Criminal History Check required every 60 months
  • Maintain Valid Driver's License
  • CPR certification required within 90 days of hire
  • CCMC training is required within 60 days of hire and annually thereafter
  • Must meet audio standards as follows: Must be able to distinguish a normal whisper at a distance of fifteen (15) feet. The test shall be independently conducted on each ear, while the tested ear is facing away from the speaker and the other ear is firmly covered with the palm of the hand. Use of a hearing aid is permitted
  • Must meet visual standards as follows: Corrected vision of at least 20/20 in one eye and 20/40 in the other.  Binocular Single Vision exam to ensure suitable depth perception.  Color Perception- a suitable Pseudoisochromatic color plate test.  Field of vision-combined field of vision 120 degrees or greater in the horizontal meridian, excepting normal blind spots. 
  • Successfully pass UPMC Physical Fitness Standard prior to hire.
  • Physical fitness requirements to deal with typical physical demands that require full body motion and physical strength and stamina sufficient to respond to crisis interventions and medical emergencies.  Must have good hand/eye coordination. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform activities within a medium physical demand category as per U.S. Department of Labor guidelines, which define Medium Work as Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Retesting will occur every three (3) years or upon management request.
  • Physical requirements include: Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling 50 pounds on an occasional basis. Postural requirements are as follows:   Sitting – constant; balancing – rare; repetitive kneeling – rare; overhead reaching – occasional; grasping – constant; sustained kneeling – rare; fine manipulation – frequent; repetitive squatting – rare; twisting – frequent; forward reaching – frequent; stooping – occasional; stair climbing – occasional; ladder climb – rare; functional ambulation – constant; emergency response to move rapidly in a safe manner to locations of emergent situations.
  • Category/Hours:  Rare = 0-0.1 hours per day or 0-5 repetitions per shift; Occasional = .01 – 2.5 hours per day or 1-100 repetitions per shift; Frequent = 2.25 – 5.5 hours per day or 100-500 repetitions per shift; and constant = 5.5+ hours per day or greater than 500 repetitions per shift.
  • Required Personality Test- A full length current standard form of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI or MMPI2-RF) will be administered by a licensed psychologist or paraprofessional employed by and under the direct control and supervision of the licensed psychologist.
