The Army Aviation Aircraft Welder provides welding support for engine/components/support equipment at the highest quality and safety standards in accordance with applicable technical directives.  

  • Performs fusion welding and torch brazing for ground support equipment, ensuring the procedure is completed per the requirements of the national welding and brazing codes and specifications American Welding Specification (AWS) D17.1M:2010 AMD1 Specification for Fusion Welding for Aerospace Applications.

  • Weld, grind, solder, heat-treat and perform sand blasting of engine and support equipment in accordance with the requirements specified in applicable technical manuals.

  • Must be able to weld a variety of materials such as aluminum, magnesium, alloyed and low alloy steel, stainless steel and nickel alloy steels.

  • Must have knowledge of the materials to select the correct filler materials and shielding gas when generating the Weld Procedure Specification (WPS), and product flight critical welds and assist in the development of generating Weld Procedure specifications as mandated by welding codes and specifications.

  • Assist in performing sheet metal tasks to support the metal processing workload. Fabricate parts, stands, fixtures, and equipment as required.

  • Determines serviceability of engine parts/support equipment.

  • Accomplish paperwork entries associated with maintenance tasks and the ordering of parts.

  • Perform inspections of engine/component repairs for quality and completeness.

  • Must ensure all applicable PPE is worn as required.

  • Performs other duties as requested.

  • *Will be subject to review and approval from the COR prior to operation of GFP welding equipment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Performs fusion welding and torch brazing for ground support equipment, ensuring the procedure is completed per the requirements of the national welding and brazing codes and specifications American Welding Specification (AWS) D17.1M:2010 AMD1 Specification for Fusion Welding for Aerospace Applications.

  • Two (2) or more years of experience in commercial welding is required. Aviation Welding experience is strongly desired.

  • Prior experience in welding on assigned engines preferred.

  • Maintain certification as a condition of employment.

  • Working knowledge of welding shop practices and procedures.

  • Working knowledge of drawings, blueprints, maintenance instructions and other applicable technical directives.

  • Ability to be Respirator qualified is required.

  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a Favorable NACI (T1) Public Security Clearance. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization to work at this facility.

Preferred/Physical Qualifications

  • Must be able to read and understand engineering drawings and welding symbols, fabricates manufacture-welded parts from engineering drawing without direct supervision.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • Able to read, write, speak and understand English.

  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day.

  • Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.

  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.

  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.

HIRING SALARY RANGE- $61,380.80  - $ 29.51  per hour (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
