The Department of Surgery Grants & Contracts (SGC) team has an exciting entry level opportunity with room for growth. We are seeking a Grants & Contracts Professional 1 or 2 (depending on experience) to manage an independent workload of proposal submissions in an environment of continuous mprovement to provide exceptional grant preparation assistance to busy clinical and research faculty.
This hybrid position will primarily work independently with day-to-day activities; and report to the
Grants & Contracts Manager. The successful candidate will be expected to be in the office 2 days per
week during the 6-month probationary period and a minimum of 1 day per week after passing
probation.

The successful candidate will receive training and be part of a collaborative team who helps facilitate
proposal submission up to the point an award is made. This position reports to the SGC Manager.

TYPICAL TASKS (These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the
assignment of related tasks in any position of this class.)
85% Proposal Preparation and Award Management
* Manage the proposal preparation and submission process from initial development through
point of award for an assigned group of investigators (faculty, post-docs, etc.) on a wide variety of
funding mechanisms that includes R-series, training grants, career development awards,
program/project, center-type, internal UMN funding, foundations, and State of Minnesota.
* Develop budgets for sponsored projects in collaboration with the principal investigator(s),
Surgery Clinical Trials Office (SurgCTO), and accounting personnel, ensuring proposals contain
appropriate effort and other resources.
* Understand and communicate sponsor and University restrictions regarding PI/staff eligibility,
cost sharing, F&A sharing, sponsor restrictions, and award terms.
* Assist with new departmental research initiatives as they are developed.

15% Compliance and Administration
* Contribute to team meeting agendas regarding current issues, policy updates, workload, tool
development, etc. and take notes at meetings
* Collaborate with other SGC team members to ensure seamless service delivery of proposals
* Share knowledge and interpretation of issues relevant to proposals and awards
* Monitor both sponsor pre-award compliance (FCOI, RCR, Sponsors' public access policies, other
support documentation, use of human subjects or vertebrate animals, etc.) and University pre-award
compliance across the DOS
* Continue professional development by attending relevant courses, workshops, seminars,
professional society meetings and other training opportunities, as agreed upon with the SGC Manager
* Other tasks, as assigned by the SGC Manager
Please note that GCP 1 & 2s do the same type of work but there are some differences between the two levels:
*GCP 2s have more experience and will be expected to handle a larger workload and may require less training.
*GCP 2s will be responsible for a larger number of faculty, which may require more collaboration.
The salary range is ~$48,505.60 - $64,000, depending on experience.

* BA/BS or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years; applied knowledge and skill to a recurring task or activity with emphasis typically on accuracy and timeliness of
execution.
* Candidate should demonstrate ability to operate independently under general supervision.
* Candidate should be able to independently solve complex problems in Research Administration

* BA/BS or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least 4 years.
* Candidate should demonstrate ability to operate independently under general supervision.

Preferred Qualifications
* Experience participating in program and administrative planning for grants in the areas of
research, preparation, and submission.
* Experience prioritizing competing deadlines, task, and projects.
* Experience working in higher education institution
