Posting Summary
The Assistant Director of Inclusion Excellence within the Department of Residential Life provides strategic leadership to advance inclusion and belonging initiatives across the department aligning them with the University’s Inclusive Excellence Action Plan. Lead community engagement efforts, collaborating with campus partners, assessing inclusion and belonging programs, and supporting marginalized student populations. Provide supervision for the STEM Scholars Program, aligning it with broader institutional goals, and serves as a resource and advocate for students and staff. Contribute to University-wide committees, fostering inclusive excellence and driving improvements to the climate in our residence halls, home to 6200 residential students.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Education, Social Work, Sociology, or related disciplines).
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in inclusion and belonging work, preferably within a higher education or residential life setting.
  • Strong understanding of principles and best practices of inclusion and belonging.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Cultural competency and ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of students, staff, and faculty.
  • Experience in program development, implementation, and assessment.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable campus environment.
  • Effective working knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft Office, and Internet tools required.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Student Personnel/Administration, Student Development Theory or in a relevant field related to inclusion and belonging.
  • Experience with conflict resolution and crisis intervention.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and housing programs.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations with professionalism and discretion

Anticipated Pay Range $63,000-$74,000
Other Information
Special Conditions Weekend work required, Non-standard work hours required, External candidates must complete a 4-month probationary period, A probationary period may be required, Contingent on continued funding, Occasional evening and/or weekends required (if non-exempt position, may result in overtime), A probationary period may be required for current UVM employees, Background Check required for this position
