The opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer for Lingo based in Alameda, CA (San Francisco Bay Area), our product headquarters.

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer with a strong background in building reactive systems to join our team. You will help the team in delivering clinically validated, regulatory-grade digital health products and solutions in preventive care using Bio-Wearables. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in designing, developing, and deploying scalable, high-performance applications using reactive programming paradigms and frameworks such as Vert.x. The role involves leading development efforts, ensuring code quality, and contributing to the overall architecture of reactive systems.

What You’ll Work On 

  • Architect, design, and implement reactive applications and microservices using Vert.x.
  • Develop high-performance, low-latency applications leveraging non-blocking I/O and event-driven paradigms.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge of the complete software development process; lead and be accountable for the engineering design and implementation of features and capabilities in one or more subsystems.
  • Oversee the end-to-end implementation of internal and external interfaces, implementation patterns, and testing strategies (unit, integration, performance) for all features in one or more subsystems.
  • Continuously monitor and review code for quality, compliance, and design adherence.
  • Collaborate on implementing RESTful APIs, WebSocket interfaces, and distributed systems.
  • Ensure comprehensive test coverage for all features and capabilities in one or more subsystems.
  • Mentor junior developers and contribute to the continuous improvement of team skills.
  • Review software requirements as a technical subject matter expert.
  • Conduct code reviews to maintain high coding standards.
  • Evaluate multiple design options, lead proofs-of-concept, and propose optimal design solutions compatible with the software system architecture.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, architects, and DevOps engineers.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for developed modules and systems.

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of related experience.

  • Expert experience in designing and developing complex software systems.

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in Vert.x and reactive systems.

  • Strong programming skills in Java or Kotlin (experience with other JVM-based languages is a plus).

  • Expertise in asynchronous programming, event-driven architecture, and non-blocking I/O.

  • Familiarity with containerization/micro-containerization tools and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.

  • knowledge with continuous integration & continuous development (CI/CD)

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.    

  • Expert-level understanding of design patterns, distributed systems, and microservices architecture.

  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills.

    Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities.

    Evolves the architecture to support future requirements and defines its service level agreements (SLAs).

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Proficient in NoSQL databases (e.g., Cassandra).
  • Skilled in data analytics and data-driven solutions.
  • Effective communicator of technical topics.
  • Familiar with reactive frameworks like Akka or Spring WebFlux.
  • Knowledge of polyglot programming and multi-language development.
  • Graph database knowledge is a plus.
  • Experience with medical devices and bio-wearable sensors.
  • Contributions to open-source Vert.x projects are a plus.

The base pay for this position is $112,000.00 – $224,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
