JOB REQUIREMENTS: Brief Description: The Machinist I sets up, adjusts
and operates a variety of CNC machine tools to perform progressive
machining operations on a diversified line of close tolerance work
requiring a high degree of skill and machining techniques.
Responsibilities: Set up and operate CNC boring bars, CNC boring mills,
large CNC milling and turning machines, CNC grinders, special purpose
CNC machines, etc Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals,
specifications or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of
finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
Using a variety of precision measuring equipment, measures, marks, and
scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as
guides for subsequent machining. Dry run, debug and edit CNC programs at
machine under supervision. Selects, aligns, and secures holding
fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on
machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers
Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as
speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters
commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media,
under supervision Starts and observes machine operation to detect
malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls
or control media as required. Verifies conformance of finished workpiece
to specifications. Grinds and adapts tooling and attachments for special
work requirements. The Machinist I is knowledgeable about most aspects
of precision CNC machining. Also has knowledge of materials both ferrous
and non-ferrous along with machining speeds and feeds. The Machinist is
able to use and interpret information supplied by various measuring
instruments; able to read, understand and modify CNC machining programs
and able to use of forklifts, cranes and hand trucks. Calculate
dimensions or tolerances, using instruments, such as micrometers or
vernier calipers. Machine parts to specifications, using machine tools,
such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders. Measure,
examine, or test completed units to check for defects and ensure
conformance to specifications, using precision instruments, such as
micrometers. \*\*\*\*\* OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: High school
diploma or GED. Technical certificate from a trade school, 2 to 3 years
of machining experience Ability to communicate accordingly. Good
mathematical skills. Computer skills and abilities along with reasoning
