Job Objective

Determines parts and equipment needs, conducts inventories, and develops bid specifications. Seeks high quality at the most advantageous price, makes purchases, and coordinates the acquisition of contracted services with equipment. Maintains storeroom and inventory appropriately.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities


Reviews and reconciles discrepancies for parts and equipment that were purchased.
Reviews budgetary restrictions with Stockroom Supervisor to ensure all purchases are made within set guidelines.
Discusses, solicits, and evaluates input as to the performance of parts and equipment to ascertain their efficiency, effectiveness, durability, and need for continued use, as well as the need for new products.
Researches the history of various purchases from vendors to determine previous quantities purchased and prices paid to ensure all future purchases are made with the greatest advantage to Supply Chain. -
Purchase MRO and Supply items to ensure supplies and equipment are obtained and available to meet Supply Chain demands within limits of purchasing approval authority.-.
Oversees the stockroom operation by continually reviewing, consolidating and upgrading the layout area to make the best use of available space.
Oversees counter service, receiving, and the categorizing of parts and equipment.
Facilitates the receiving of incoming stock and supplies by selecting the most appropriate method of shipment.
Identifies vendors that provide optimal pricing, delivery, and lead time within designated constraints, cost and delivery time as well as when and where to purchase supplies up to a specified amount.
Monitors purchase orders and follows up with vendors to ensure correct pricing, delivery, lead time, and accuracy of orders met.
Teams with Accounts Payable to set-up vendors within the appropriate systems.
Contacts contractors to ensure all necessary paperwork is completed prior to performing work on-site, routes completed paperwork accordingly.
Communicates with current supplier base for price changes; updates AS400 quote-file as needed. Maintains communication with suppliers to prevent stock-outs due to product obsolescence; works with Maintenance Supervision, MET's, or Engineering to find alternate, like-for-like, or equivalent products.
Communicates with Global Sourcing when the cost of needed products is above purchasing order approval level.
Actively researches and establishes new vendors to ensure purchases are made to the greatest advantage of the Supply Chain.
Determining whether the item is to be stocked or special ordered.
Developing bid specifications for items over a specified amount that adequately meet the needs of the department and fall within budgetary restrictions and time constraints.
Oversees the stockroom operation by continually reviewing, consolidating, and upgrading the layout area to fully utilize the space available.
Oversees counter service, receiving, and the categorization of parts and equipment.

Education and Experience - Required

Background must demonstrate knowledge of materials and equipment relevant to the efficient management of supplies and acquisition of services to work with a maintenance department.

Position Specific - Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge of parts and equipment sourcing

Chemical processing equipment and packaging machinery.

Required Attire

Follows requirements of policies for donning personal protection equipment (PPE) or other requirements (e.g. hairnets, eye protection, etc.) when entering manufacturing, production related, laboratory, and logistics work areas. Other situations as appropriate.
