ISLAND HARVEST is a leading hunger relief organization with a mission to end hunger and reduce food waste. We accomplish this through efficient food and product collection and distribution systems, enhanced hunger awareness and nutrition education programs, a workforce development institute, targeted services for specific operations, outreach activities and advocacy initiatives. Island Harvest has the following exciting position available in our Melville, NY office: Community Program Coordinator (Bi-lingual in English/Spanish or Haitian Creole) Job Description: Application assistance to people on Long Island in need of SNAP (formerly known as Food Stamps) benefits, with a focus on underserved communities. Respond to inquiries regarding SNAP or other benefits assistance for clients having difficulties with their current benefits. Complete SNAP applications over the phone or provide the tools needed for them to fill out the applications. Data entry and keep records regarding assistance provided. Participate in outreach activities with community partners as needed. Requirements: High School Diploma with post-secondary education or training preferred. 1-2 years experience in customer service or a human service organization Bi-lingual in English and Spanish. Haitian Creole is also of interest. Knowledge of resources and services available for struggling families. Excellent telephone communication skills Good computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google. Hours: 40 Hours Per Week on site. Schedule is partially flexible.
