At Pauley Construction, as a Fiber Splicer II , you’ll need a minimum of 2 year experience splicing and placing both copper and fiber cable as well as troubleshooting both as required. includes various physical requirements and ability to distinguish all colors used in telephone cable; ability to work aloft from ladders, platforms, poles (with climbers); and bucket trucks. This position will work on large cable transfers, maintenance, new construction & overbuilds, road moves and on all cables sizes, types and environments. This position performs duties such as: cable maintenance, installation, removal, rearrangement and maintenance of single line and associated telecom/apparatus equipment. What you’ll do as a Fiber Splicer II
- Basic Computer knowledge
- Splicing fiber cable for large cable transfers
- Cable maintenance
- Proficient in fiber color codes
- Adtran and Calix testing and turn-up
- Light labor including lifting manhole covers and barricading open manholes
- Connection testing
- Working with ISP/OSP terminations
- Working in, from and around hand-holes and manholes
- Performs tasks associated with the electronic upgrade and splicing of cable
- Test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment after installation
- Basic daily maintenance of provided vehicle: check fluids, clean and organize vehicle
- Self-supervise all operations to ensure that all splicing operations are completed in accordance with customer and industry specifications.
- Safely operate and use bucket truck to complete daily construction assignments as needed (potentially climb poles)
- Must be cautious while working with existing enclosures in ground and aerial work.
- Field train and control/oversee the work of other Splicers when necessary.
- Complete daily production reports, mark-up maps, keep track of work hours, complete "as-built maps" for areas built and track daily production
- Reconcile all issued parts and materials on a daily basis to ensure accurate material usage counts.
- Frequently work independently
- Build and maintain internal and customer relationships
- Other splicing related duties as assigned
What you’ll need
- Must be at least 18 years of age to operate company equipment or to drive company vehicles
- Authorization to work in the United States for this company
- Must be able to pass a background check and company drug screening.
- Must be able to attend and pass all company required training as needed.
- May be required to work over-time; after hours; on weekends, for emergencies or be on-call as work is needed to ensure work is completed.
- May include working nights and holidays as needed.
- May be required to travel in state or overnight as necessary to meet business and job requirements.
- Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position.
Additional qualifications (if applicable)
- 2 or more years of fiber splicing experience
- Knowledge of hot cuts and solid OTDR testing
- Ribbon splicing knowledge preferred
- Knowledge of local cable facilities and fiber networks
- Experience in Outside Plant telecom functions
- Experience in how to read and interpret outside and subscriber plant facility records and engineering schematic work prints
- Working knowledge of analog and digital transmission
- Experience in splicing fiber optics, copper cable (various splice connectors)
- Knowledge of bonding and grounding requirements of telecommunications plant
- Working knowledge of ISP/OSP fiber optics terminations in splicing products in regards to appropriate application
- Must be able to travel overnight as necessary to meet business and job requirements
- Assist other technical personnel in the performance of their duties when requested
- Ability to distinguish between different cable types (i.e., telecommunication, electrical, fiber, CATV, etc.)
- Ability to build cable records, cut sheets and as-builts
- Working knowledge of various test (Exfo power digital meter, OTDR/VFL, OLTS, )

- Routinely: Duties outlined in this position will require the employee to stand, crouch, climb sit, bend, use hands and fingers to handle or feel as well as reaching with hands and arms to spaces both high and low. The employee will be standing, walking, climbing, balancing, crawling, crouching, lifting, holding or stooping while on shift.
- Occasionally: Employees performing these job functions may be required to lift or move up to 10 up to 50 pounds.
Pay Range: The Fiber Splicer II position pays an hourly wage of $21.00 - $26.00 per hour depending upon experience.
