Position Summary Information

Objective
Perform part-time operations of the instructional program. Faculty members at Blinn College are unranked and have the common title of Instructor.
Essential Duties
• Provide instruction for graphic design, photography or any classes for which the faculty member is assigned and credentialed with the Digital Arts programs in AKA.
• Assist with Digital Arts Program Coordinator duties should the need arise.
• Teach at a variety of times and locations as per Department needs.
• Demonstrate a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence.
• Maintain access to students through posted office hours and electronic communication.
• Prepare and utilize a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution.
• Maintain current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilizes a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources.
• Advise students in academic matters.
• Evaluate students’ performance through a variety of means to measure progress and keep them informed in a timely manner.
• Assist in the development, distribution and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives.
• Provide recommendations to the Academic Dean, Assistant Dean, Department Heads, Curriculum Resource Team and Advisory Committees regarding curriculum.
• Demonstrate a positive and professional relationship with students, colleagues, college administration, and the community.
• Submit, in a timely manner, college reports and forms to the appropriate divisions/departments.
• Exhibit a commitment to lifelong learning through participation in professional development activities.
• Possess a passion for teaching community college students.
• Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and orally.
• Attend college orientation and required institutional meetings.
• Responsible for other related duties as assigned.
• Serve on division and/or college committees.
• Assist in digital arts and applied art programs growth by attending recruiting events on behalf of the department.
• Assist Program Coordinator’s applied arts programs in all areas of program maintenance and development.
• Develop, facilitate and maintain industry/internship connections for applied arts and digital arts programs for student success.
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Associates degree or higher in Art, Commercial Art, Digital Media, Graphic Design, Instructional Media, Visual Communication, Game Art, 2D/3D digital media or closely related field and 3 years non-teaching work experience in the field OR Bachelor’s degree or higher in Art, Commercial Art, Digital Media, Graphic Design, Instructional Media, Visual
Communication, or closely related field.

Required at interview: art & professional work portfolio in Graphic Design or similar applied arts, sample curricular lesson plan and a brief simulated course lecture of ~10 minutes.

Preferred Experience and Training
1. 3 or more years of work experience in digital art creation either in commercial art or entertainment industries.
2. College level teaching experience desirable.
3. Experience with teaching online courses.
4. Strong visual art studio background at the undergraduate level.
5. Knowledge of on-line instructional design and Service Learning.
6. Sample of past student work (as instructor) desirable.
7. Sample of professional work desirable – portfolio or demo reel.



Physical Requirements
1. Participate in build up and tear down of art exhibitions
